The cab driver's spicy cologne pinched Adeline's nostrils, and she sneezed. Still, it failed to mask the sweat of his chunky body.

"Lady, we've driven for over an hour across the city and passed Boston's Orpheum Theatre twice. The meter's running. You got money for this?" He popped his gum and checked the rearview mirror. His annoyance reflected in his brown eyes, heavy bags hung beneath them, showing he must've pulled a double shift. "Guess the guy don't wanna be found."

Exactly. She huffed. Her phone vibrated, and she checked the screen, then answered.

"Hi, Adeline." Renee's soft timbre voice came through the line before Adeline said anything. "Damon and I called to see how you're doing."

"You will not believe the day I'm having." Adeline peered outside.
