Chapter 49: Dragon Fight

Adeline

Some hundred feet above the ocean, claws burrowed into her shoulders while Adeline dangled and kicked her legs. Damn dragon. Next time, leave Jack with the creature. This shit isn't worth the money.

She glared up at the dragon's belly as they soared. "I might not be a dragon slayer, but I will make you wish you'd never met me." As flesh tore when she raised her booted foot, she forced back a yelp and eased out her Swiss Army knife. If she didn't worry about dropping the weapon, she'd have kissed it.

Instead, she clicked the button to release the five-inch blade. Then she rammed it into the creature's leg. It roared in response, and their altitude dipped into a sudden dive. Her stomach dropped to her feet. The wind whipped around her.

"You're not the only one with claws." She slashed along the talon and into the underbelly.
