Cassie straightened in her leather chair and rolled her shoulders back. The sun peeked through the blinds hitting the silver vase, nearly blinding her. In the vase's reflection, her purple hair was dark blue from not sleeping. Too many long nights working to find a way to save her company. An easy way would be to talk her way out of it with her gift, but she wanted to make it on her own, not on her supernatural power.


Shouting from three stories down caught her attention. She pushed from her chair and looked down. Her assistant, Julia was on the sidewalk with her arms crossed. Cassie squinted. Was that Mike . . . Julia's ex with her? He was yelling and grabbed Julia's arm, tugging her toward a parked car.


Oh no you don't. She'd heard enough horror stories about Mike and Julia had a restraining order. The police would take forever to get here.
