Chapter 9: So what next?

Potions class had just ended and everybody was packing up but Harry and Malfoy stayed holding hands until almost everyone had packed up except for Hermione and Ron who were waiting by the door. Malfoy let go of Harry's hand and started packing up. Harry sat there for a second and then he too started packing up. Malfoy hurriedly went out of the classroom leaving Harry behind. Harry wanted to follow him but Ron and Hermione were waiting and he wasn't sure if they had seen anything. So he walked over to Ron and Hermione and said "Come on" once again with a deadpan expression on his face.

Hermione and Ron shared a worried expression behind him. Harry knew this but didn't really care; he was too busy worrying about what had happened in potions. He didn't know how to feel after all Malfoy had been his enemy since the first year! Now all of a sudden he was being nice! What is happening? Nothing makes sense anymore! Harry thought as Hermione was staring at him knowingly. Harry looked at her and she looked smug as she said "So Harry you seem a lot calmer now, did anyone help you calm down?" She looked him squarely in the eyes. She knows! and I know She knows that Malfoy and I held hands! Of course, she does, she sits right behind me and she's too nosy for her own good sometimes, Harry thought as he looked at Hermione as if begging her not to tell Ron.

She just nodded her head and looked at Ron. Ron meanwhile looked confused.

"What? Why's everyone looking at me?!" Ron said while looking back and forth from Harry and Hermione.

"Nothing!" Harry said quickly.

Ron just shrugged and looked around.

"What class do we have next?" Harry asked, frazzled by the evening's events.

Ron looked downcast after he asked."We have the toads class today." Ron said as he rolled his eyes in dismay.

Harry's heart sank as each step drew him nearer to his doom. They walked into Umbridge's classroom and took their seats. As Harry sat down he was even more nervous than he had been that morning, which was saying something.

Umbridge walked into the classroom.

"Good afternoon class," Umbridge said sweetly as she went to the front of the class.

"Good afternoon Professor Umbridge," the whole class chanted back drearily.

"Everyone turn to page 63 and read until page 100, anything you don't finish in class you can finish as homework," Umbridge exclaimed as she sat down at her desk.

Harry started to read but soon enough he was just reading the same sentence over and over again. Harry's temper was always so close to the surface those days and he couldn't take it anymore. Harry threw his hand up in the air.

Umbridge looked up but continued to ignore it. When he didn't put his hand down Umbridge said, "Do you have a question, Mr. Potter?!"Yes, I do, Professor Umbridge. Why are you so scared of us learning magic?!" Harry said loudly as he stared directly at Umbridge.

"Excuse me, Mr. Potter!?" She said trying to remain calm but the anger could be heard in her voice.

"You heard me! WHY WON'T YOU TEACH US A SPELL!" Harry yelled as he stood up.

Umbridge looked as if she was about to explode.

"DETENTION, Mr. Potter!" Umbridge said as she sat down in her chair trying to regain composure.

Harry sat back down fuming. Hermione and Ron looked at each other worried because they knew what Umbridge did. The whole class was either looking at Harry or looking at Umbridge silently. Harry bent over and kept reading unaware that Malfoy was looking at him with concern from the back of the classroom.
