The class had just ended and it was lunchtime.
Harry went to lunch and grabbed a sandwich then went back to the common room. He did not want to show his face after Potions and Defense Against the Dark Arts.
He told Ron and Hermione to stay at lunch as he wanted to be alone. They complied, but very reluctantly.
Harry went through the portrait hole and up the stairs and sat on his bed. As he did so a little paper swan appeared at his window. He let it in, knowing who it was that sent it. As soon as the little paper swan landed on his hand he opened it and it read:
Dear Potter,
I noticed you aren't at lunch, which is understandable from the day you had. I was wondering if you could meet me in the classroom we did the potions work in. I feel we have some things to discuss from today.
-Malfoy
P.S. Are you really going to that detention? I guess you still have to do it.
Harry's mind went through several scenarios and decided it would be best if he went so he wrote:
Malfoy, I'll meet you there in 5 minutes, and yes I do still have to do the detention.
-Potter (You finally spelled my name correctly! I'm so proud of you!)
Harry looked down at his letter and decided that it looked good, he gave it to Hedwig to give to Malfoy.
Hedwig flew off and Harry immediately went through the portrait hole and started rushing to the faraway classroom. Harry arrived there a couple of minutes late and saw Malfoy sitting there, legs crossed just like last time.
Harry awkwardly sat down next to him. They stayed silent for a second and finally Malfoy said something.
"I'm sorry… about potions."Harry looked over at Malfoy into his gleaming grey eyes and said nothing.
"It's just when we were doing the homework you said… many things to say the least… and it just seemed like you needed a little help," Malfoy said apologetically.
Harry looked down into his lap and said, "I do need help… more than a little, I can assure you of that. But it was not your place to do that!" He continued looking into his lap.
"You must have forgiven me then!" Malfoy said accusingly.
"What do you mean!" Harry exclaimed as he was starting to get angry now.
"You held my hand in potions class!" Malfoy said getting tinted pink once again.
"It was not me! You were the one that held my hand!" Harry yelled back as he turned and looked Malfoy straight in the eyes.
They started going back and forth for a while.
But eventually, Malfoy was sick of arguing and exclaimed, "Just shut up!"
Malfoy leaned over to Harry and kissed him. Harry, not knowing what to do, did the same. When they broke the kiss, they were both blushing as red as tomatoes as they looked into each other's eyes. Harry was the one to break eye contact as he looked into his lap smiling. Malfoy kept looking at Harry blushing.
"I knew that would shut you up," Malfoy said smugly.
Harry was of course confused as heck as he had just kissed his enemy for the past 4 and a half years! Harry turned back to Malfoy.
"Why are you being so nice to me all of a sudden? I'm so confused! One minute you're making fun of me and my parents and the next you're worried about my happiness! I just don't get it!" Harry said as his voice broke off weakly and he looked tired.
Malfoy looked guilty as he stated, "Ever since you had your little outbreak we'll call it, I understood that your life isn't as perfect as I had previously thought."Harry looked at Malfoy. "Well good for you I guess!"
"You know, somehow I have shared loads more with you than with my friends."
Harry did something in between a scoff and a chuckle.
Malfoy looked awkwardly around and then scooted closer to Harry and put his arms around him and his head on his shoulder. Harry, feeling shocked and frankly extremely awkward, sat there almost peacefully, more peacefully than he's felt in the past two years. Harry finally declined and put his arms around Malfoy and they sat there trying to apologize for all the arguing and spell casting and the making fun of in that hug.
Suddenly the door burst open to reveal Hermione looking smug and triumphant. Harry and Malfoy jumped and scooted as far as they could from one another resulting in Harry falling off the bench.
"HAH, I KNEW IT!" Hermione pumped her fist in the air. "Ron's gonna owe me two Galleons once he finds out!"Harry got up and rubbed his elbow which had banged against the bench. "What do you mean 'you knew it?" Harry asked.
"Well you see, I could just tell you liked each other, I mean, it's obvious when Malfoy's form of bullying is sending paper swans, and Harry is always looking for his enemy across the great hall at the Slytherin table, I mean please, I'm not an idiot!" Hermione said indignantly as she pulled up a chair across from Harry and Malfoy.
"Okay and also what do you mean 'Ron's gonna owe you two galleons'?" Harry said confused but in a split second, he had a realization. "Did you put a bet on who I would…!"
Harry trailed off awkwardly not wanting to say date as he was still confused as heck at what was happening with Malfoy at the moment.
Hermione smugly said, "What were you going to say, Harry?"Harry felt his face heating up as he mumbled something.
"Can you speak up Harry?" Hermione said grinning.
"Date is what I said 'Mione jeez!" Harry said. His face now felt like it was made of lava.
Malfoy blushed a deeper shade of pink now as he looked at his hands.
Hermione looked back at Harry and Malfoy.
"Adorable," she said smugly under her breath.
Harry looked at Hermione with all the spite he could muster at the moment and glared at her. She just smiled and chuckled a bit. "Harry, you should probably say bye to your love, it's almost class time!"
She walked out the door waving, leaving the two boys flustered and blushing.
Harry snapped out of it and got up. "Hermione's probably right, as usual, don't tell her I said that though!" Harry chuckled as he went near the door.
"And Malfoy! Meet me here tomorrow during lunch!" With that, Harry slid out of the room and ran to find Hermione.
