Chapter 16: Why?

This carried on for about a month after. But slowly they started talking even if it was awkward chit-chat. Ron tolerated him and Draco didn't mind even when Ron was giving him funny glances. Ron only really started to warm up to him after Sirius died and Harry was emotionally damaged. Draco was there the whole way comforting Harry even when Harry tried to push him away. It was now 1 day away from the end of term.

Harry was dreading the end of term as he wouldn't be able to see Draco while confined to the Dursley's "jail". Their relationship was going healthy and Harry despite Sirius's death could still smile with Draco. Harry didn't leave Dracos side and Draco didn't leave his.

Harry was packing up rather glumly as Draco slid in and looked solemn. Harry looked up curiously.

"Hey, Draco everything ok?" Harry asked nervously as he put some of his items down and patted to sit next to him.

Draco looked as if he was about to puke, he also looked paler than usual.

"Harry we need to talk," Draco said this with his eyes glazing over.

Harry's heart dropped, did he do something wrong. Harry thought back to the past 2 months as he said "WHat would you like to talk about Draco?"

Draco gulped "We can't be together anymore" his eyes were barely holding back tears when he said this.

The world around Harry started crashing down.

"What?" Harry barely whispered this as he could hear his heart thumping loudly.

"We can't be together, goodbye Harry," Draco said this and quickly walked out of the room holding back tears. He was cursing his stupid father for ruining everything good in his life.

Harry sat there paralyzed. His eyes had started welling and he became overwhelmed. He layed in his bed and drew the curtain around it. The tears started leaking out of his eyes as he covered his face with the pillow trying to muffle the sob. He knew he would have to go to the feast so he silently got up and wiped his eyes. He walked down to the feast alone as Hermione and Ron were already there. When he got to the Gryffindor table he didn't dare look across the hall; he just sat down next to Hermione and Ron.

Hermione looked concerned as she had noticed his red eyes.

"I'll tell you about it on the train tomorrow," Harry whispered, turning his head to the front table. Dumbledore was saying his speech but Harry wasn't listening. His heart was beating fastly as it all crashed down on him once again. Dumbledore quickly finished his speech and sent them off to bed. Harry was very glad to go. Hermione and Ron stayed silent as Hermione told Ron Harry would tell them on the train. Harry drifted off into a fitful sleep filled with nightmares and heartbreak. When he got up he finished packing and went down the stairs dreading the summer as he knew he would have no one to talk to. They went outside the castle and to the train. When they went inside they found a compartment and sat down. When they did, Harry did what he had promised and told them what happened. Ron threatened and cursed Draco and Hermione hugged Harry. Harry was grateful for his friends. He watched in silence as trees and grasslands passed. The train finally stopped and Hermione and Ron hugged Harry goodbye. Harry walked to the Dursleys who were decidedly ignoring him. They walked to the car and Harry sat down watching out the car window as they drove slowly to Number 4 Privet Drive.
