Tormented by loan sharks, Lorn had lived the life of an 'ascetic'. He would willingly become homeless and live the life of a beggar (and only sometimes a pickpocket), so his hard-earned money wouldn't fall into his debtors' hands. Hopefully, they would finally leave him alone after realizing he's worth nothing anymore.

But realizing his plans, the debtors decide to sell him as a guinea pig! 

The One Country's grand experiment attempting to copy a human's consciousness and put it inside the digital space! The only catch is, 80% of the test subjects are expected to receive lasting damages to their brain. 

However, Lorn finds a once-in-a-lifetime chance. The researchers were creating a virtual world using the digital space. And to create profits from it, instead of simply creating boring-old Virtual Earth (and calling it the Metaverse), they were making a game out of it!

Lorn did not waste any time, and immediately talked to Lucas on his plans.

"Hmm… I'd love to help, but I simply cannot grant you all the spare relics in our treasury," the Guildmaster explained. "As you know, there are rules and regulations on relic distribution in the Guild. As its master, I cannot blatantly show such favoritism towards you. In fact, me training you and Sybil every week has created much discontent among the others. Any more and I'll risk members leaving the guild."

Lorn felt like it wouldn't get to that point, especially since Lucas was one of the few A-ranks in the city, but he could understand the Guildmaster's reluctance to give him the relics.

"I see. Then I'll work out a plan to gather the relics myself."

"Good," Lucas nodded. "Also, it would do you good to practice extensively with your puppets before challenging Elan. He just became a D-rank himself."
