Chapter 1

"Mother!" I shouted while sitting upright on the bed. I was sweating profusely and I had wetted the place where I laid. My breathing was heavy and fast and my chest was heaving up and down as if I had just ran for a long while now. My eyes were wide open due to shock and dear but I didn't notice the man beside me until he spoke.

"Take it easy," he spoke making me freeze on my sitting position. He voice was too cold to be real. I stared at him but couldn't grasp his masculine face since the room wasn't lit and only the light from outside illuminated the room. I wanted to jump off the bed but my legs didn't allow me.I wanted to ask who this man was but my voice couldn't be projected out. I continued staring at the man blankly not knowing what to do next.

"Who are you?" the man continued asking coldly making my mouth drop in confusion. I was in a dark room, with a total strange man and in the middle of nowhere and I didn't know I had been here for how long and the only person who could answer my questions was asking who I am.... everything wasn't adding up. I remained quiet not knowing whether to answer him or not. The man stood silently from the chair besides the little bed and walked away. Just then I gained my ability to speak due to fear of being left alone in such a place, and I found myself calling after him.

"Don't leave me here.... excuse me," I shouted as he stepped out of the dim lit room. I quickly got off the bed but my right leg was very painful causing me to miss a step and fell hard on the cold bare floor. I quickly stood from the floor and ran towards the door but it was already locked. Just then, I was struck hard by the pain on my right leg causing tears to fall of my eyes as I sat on the floor my back against the door. I subconsciously led my hand to the source of the pain but my hand touched something so smooth but hard, definitely not my skin.I slowly turn my head to look at what I just caught but my eyes fell on a white thing covering my leg,,,,a bandage. I was dumbstruck. I tried hard to remember what happened and this time it didn't fail me. I remembered that it was at night and the it was cold. The place was icy and my sister and I were outside the house sitted by the door. We were on our warm outfits and we both sat quietly.

"What's that?" Andy asked, breaking the silence between us. I strained my ears since I hadn't heard anything and I also heard the disturbing sound from the living room. I quickly stood from where I sat as the noise was getting louder. Andy and I ran inside and we found our mother lying on the floor and tears falling from her eyes. We both squatted besides her taking her hands in our own hands and stared down at her worriedly.

"M-mother... what's wrong mother," I asked trying not to cry as my younger sister was already shedding tears. Mother couldn't talk but she loosed her grip from my hands and touched her chest, pain evident in her eyes. This wasn't the first time and I knew she was having an asthma attack.

"Got get the inhaler," I shouted at Andy who ran upstairs as lighting.

"You will be fine mother....," I spoke slowly but loud enough for her to hear as I made her use the inhaler. Five minutes later, the attack was intensifying and I become scared. The attack was to subside after using the inhaler but instead it was intensifying. Wide eyed, I picked the inhaler and shook it vigorously as I listened to the intensity of the sound it made but there was no sound produced. The inhaler was empty. I averted my gaze to my mother before speaking to Andy.

"Hold her palms....keep her warm....I will go buy another inhaler at the next street," I told her as I ran out of the house. I ran down the street towards the shops. Unfortunately the shops were already closed. I left out a trembly sigh not knowing what to do. I was half way running back home when I remembered that there was a pharmacy at the sixth street which was located across the main road. I took a shortcut and madly ran towards the place. It took me almost twenty minutes before I could reach the place. It was late at night but I was fortunate that the pharmacy wasn't closed yet. I paid for the inhaler and left the shop. My mind was focused on getting back home as fast as I could that I didn't notice the fast fast approaching convoy until I was at the middle of the road. My eyes widen with shock knowing that I couldn't save myself. The floor was very cold and I could hear the sound of my dancing teeth. I tried to stand from the floor but I couldn't support myself and the pain on my leg wasn't giving me a break. Tears started falling off my eyes as the cold was chewing me alive, the pain on my leg was getting unbearable as seconds passed by and not knowing what happened to my mother and little Andy was even shattering my heart to pieces. I started crawling towards the bed, dragging my heavy painful leg along. I did it slowly but the pain was getting more and more intense by each movement. My face was washed with tears as I moved closer to the bed. I was finally there and I raised my hand to support myself so that I could stand but just then, a sharp pain I had never felt before hit my leg and caused me to pass out.
