I was on the third floor, confused as to where to go. Then I saw the elf girl, the girl who was in the big room with me, go into an office. I followed her in. I let out a sigh to see that I was not in the wrong room. There were familiar faces, faces I saw in the big room, but there were only like 10 of us now. Others must be sent somewhere else. On to the other floors.
I tried to be inconspicuous as I entered the room, everyone turned to stare at me, making me shrink into myself. Then I remembered what Leo told me. "Make sure to look confident even if you don't feel confident." he said when he saw me twisting my hands anxiously outside the office when he dropped me. "Or you will get stepped on. Don't forget you are a princess."
Taking a deep breath, I steeled myself and entered the room with my head held high, although I avoided looking at anyone directly. I went and stood beside a girl with short black hair. She was shorter than me by half a foot. She looks kind of cute.
"There are only 14 of you?" asked a voice from the opposite side of the room. In my anxiety, I didn't see anyone else in the room. Now that I look at the person the voice belongs to there was a girl sitting on the chair, looking at something on her phone.
Then she called some names, and ten of the people, who were standing with me were sent out with a boy who popped his head in the room. And four of us were left including the cute short girl and the elf girl, and a boy who was looking at the elf like he found treasure. He was full-on staring at her. But when she turned to look at him, he was looking anywhere but at her. A smile escaped me looking at them.
"Now only four of you are left. Well, I guess I have to make do." She was pacing in the room looking at something on the iPad. Someone was messaging her; it must be about work. She let out a large sigh and put it on the table behind her, and walked to us.
"I am Liza Dagon, the manager of the special task unit. This entire third floor is compromised of the special task unit. Here we take care of things that are too difficult for other units. This unit is made of the strongest possible candidates in the whole Etheria." she said to us. Does that mean we are also the strongest candidates? "The others were sent to different teams, according to their skills and capabilities. You four are the strongest in your group so you will work for me. Until I send you to someone else."
"As you all are new, so first familiarize yourselves with these." She indicated to a large pile of files that were on a table. "These are the cases that our teams are working on. And some of them are the layout of the Starfall city and the crime rates in those areas. The patterns, the landmarks, the maps. Everything about this city is in those. familiarize yourselves with it. From tomorrow your real work starts."
There are at least 50 files in there, do we have to read all of them today? The four of us glanced at each other. Did I have to get selected for the toughest unit of all? Leo also works here. He must be here somewhere; he will sometimes get called when things get too rough.
A ping sounded from her phone, she saw the message and was out of the room. We each took some files and sat on the sofa and started reading them. I could see Liza running in the office from here to there. It looks hard being the manager.
"Don't you think today is somewhat chaotic all around the office?" It was the elf girl, Yama. I was surprised she was the one to talk to all of us as elves mostly keep it to themselves and rarely mingle with others outside their species. But she looks friendly. She looks like a person who would be supportive and friendly even toward others.
"I heard someone is coming here." said the short girl. She must be a witch. She looks like she has no interest in being here.
"I think we should introduce ourselves. I am Enzo of nether." he said, so he is a demon, from the nether kingdom.
"Yama maywaters." She smiled at us. Her smile made me a bit less nervous about this whole thing.
"Diana Lenor." the short girl said. Lenor? I think I heard it somewhere. It was in the back of my mind but I couldn't remember it.
"Morana." I said and we all went back to study our files. We were yawning, since we had been doing this for 2 hours now. It was actually interesting reading these files. There were so many things that were in here. There was a case of a demon who had vanished after stealing the sword of the late demon king about a hundred years ago and they are still searching for him and the sword as it is a symbol of power and strength for the demons.
There are several other cases like his, some of them are hundreds of years old while some of them are pretty recent. As much as I like working, I was getting sleepy, I wished I had had coffee then I remembered they have coffee here.
"Does anyone want coffee?" I asked them before going to get one. Diana and Enzo raised their hands while Yama shook her head. "Coffee is poison." She said, staring dead into my eyes like I should listen to her and not drink the poison myself. I just smiled at her and went outside the room. No one and nothing can convince me to not drink coffee.
