Darksouls and Artificial difficulty

So in darksouls the trilogy, there is always something the game is known for, it's insurmountable difficulty for 1st timers of the series. I was once also like this, because the first time that I played darksouls 1, I quit after around 1 hour, because the tartus demon kicked my 10 year old ass so hard.

And years later after looking back on that experience I figured out why, in the arena you enter through a fog gate, which bypasses through an archer tower. And When I was that young, I was so hyper-focused into the boss fight I didn't even notice the fact that I was getting fucking shot by the archers. And after completing my Ng+2 on darksouls 3, I realized why so many people love this game. There are no difficulty options.

The only difficulty options you have are the classes you choose to play as, after that the only way to raise the difficulty is to be a dumbass, or do it yourself. That's what the game is about, studying the boss' cartography, watching his every move and forcing your brain into knowing what is and isn't a combo.

There are 3 famous examples for that in all of darksouls. Artorias the Abyss Walker, From Ds1, The Nameless King, from Ds3, and Gale the Slave Knight from Ds3. The common thing in all these boss fight's is that, no matter what level you are, in three hit's you are already dead, with Gale he can kill you in 2 if he gets you with a particularly nasty combo.

The point of all this is that, Dark souls doesn't suffer from what a lot of other game's do. The use of artificial difficulty. Artificial difficulty is when a game studio will add the option to make a game harder by changing the difficulty, you know like, [Easy, Normal, Hard] things like that. But dark souls doesn't suffer from that because of its Ng+ system.

In dark souls, after you have beaten the final boss of the game, The Soul of Cinder, one of my personally favorite bosses, and triggered the ending, you will be given the option to go into Ng+. The reason why this system is better is because the character levels up with the enemy's. Because in Ng+, although the enemy's are much tougher, The Character also get's more "Souls" The main currency of the game, allowing them to level up faster too, It's a symbiotic relationship.

Now artificial difficulty isn't bad, it's a normal thing to do, but they usually just up the enemy's stat's, And don't increase the EXP gain, making it way to hard. That's why I love the souls franchise. Because if your ever having difficulty in the game, just grind lol. And it isn't a long grind because of the fact that the souls level up along side you.

That's it. Although I'm going to release 3 more chapters in around 20 minutes because I told a friend on discord that I would.

Looking at you Foxxy.
