Chapter 124: Anomalous Slytherin

It was the owls that calmed the young wizards. In the blink of an eye, over a hundred owls flew into the Great Dining Hall, and circled overhead hooting.

It was like a rain of owls every morning, even more spectacular.

In fact, it was dinner time - how could there be so many people writing at this hour?

Besides, the next day was the first day of the Christmas party. Almost all the young wizards were going home. No matter how they looked at it, there were no letters or packages to send them at that time.

This was truly abnormal. Harry looked at the owls absently.

The werewolf attack on Ivan and Hermione, the disappearance of the professors, and the sudden appearance of over a hundred owls, made him feel a bad omen, as if something bad was about to happen.

Harry wanted to know what news these owls had brought, but there was no letter for him.

Fred and George stood at the table, waving their wands. They tried to catch an owl, but Percy was quick to stop them.

The owls huddled together, all flying towards the long Slytherin table. They all had envelopes in their mouths, and ran to be the first to deliver their letters.

The other three Houses looked at them in silence. They all craned their necks in hopes of getting some clues from the expressions on the Slytherin's faces.

Harry saw that Malfoy received his envelope as if he had a great honor.

He waved the envelope in his hand smugly, a smirk on his face. Harry clenched his fist as he saw Malfoy reading the letter in his hand. At first, he looked terrified. But then, a mischievous grin appeared on his pale face.

Harry not only focused on Malfoy, but also looked around to see the reactions of the other Slytherin students.

Several of the seniors were nodding in agreement, and all were sons of some of the most powerful pureblood families. Among them was Marcus Flint, the captain of the Slytherin Quidditch team, and the leader of his class, Marcus Flint.

He rose from his seat, and that signaled all the Slytherin students to do the same.

No one spoke and everyone was awfully quiet.

Under the horrified eyes of the students of the other three Houses, they began to leave in an organized manner. Everyone's behavior was intense and exciting.

Everyone wanted to ask them what exactly had happened, but no one dared to do so.

Percy looked pale as if he wanted to stop the Slytherin students. He moved forward a bit, but finally did nothing.

Everything seemed really abnormal. Watching as the Slytherin students began to leave one after another, the Great Dining Hall erupted with the buzz of students murmuring. The mood was becoming more tense, and everyone had that kind of feeling one gets before a storm.

By now, even the dumber students could sense that something bad was about to happen.

"Malfoy, what are you trying to do? what kind of plot are you up to this time?" Harry stood up and shouted at Malfoy, who was about to leave the Great Dining Hall.

He didn't know why, but he was very angry.

The truth about his parents' death, the fact that they were betrayed by his best friend, the fear for Ivan and Hermione being attacked by the werewolf, and the repression and discomfort brought on by the Slytherin's abnormal behavior all converged to infuriate him.

He looked at Malfoy angrily and wanted to pounce on him.

The Slytherin students who were on the move stopped when they heard Harry's voice. They all held their breath and looked back and forth between Harry and Malfoy.

"Don't you know, Potter?" Malfoy said quietly, his mouth quirked into a mischievous chuckle. "That's unfortunate. It seems you are not qualified to know this news."

"Keep talking, Malfoy, and I'll give you some real news!" Harry growled loudly and drew his wand against Malfoy.

The Gryffindor and Slytherin students pulled out their wands. The Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff students who were familiar with the scene leaned back to give them more room.

"Stop, that's enough!" Percy walked to the center of the Great Dining Hall. The Prefect badge on his chest glittered in the candlelight. He said to the Slytherin students, "Quick, put your wands down or I'll take points off!"

"Tell that to someone who cares, Weasley!" Malfoy glared at Percy who stood in the middle of the crowd.

"Five points for Slytherin. I don't like your attitude, Malfoy, you need to show the Prefect of the student body more respect!" Percy looked extremely indignant. His ears were red, "Now, hurry back to your table before you get docked another five points!"

"We've finished eating, and you still want us to stay here, Prefect?" Malfoy sneered. He looked past Percy to Potter and said provocatively. "You want to know what we're going to do Potter? Then come with me. But you should be mentally prepared, or you won't be able to take it."

Finishing his words, he followed the rest of the Slytherin students out of the Great Hall.

Harry hurried through the crowd to catch up with Malfoy. The other students looked at each other and then followed them out of the Great Hall.

Everyone was curious: what did the Slytherin's really want to do?

They walked out of the Great Dining Hall, past the empty, torch-lit Entrance Hall.

Then they climbed the stairs, coming to a long, dark corridor where no sound could be heard except the sound of their footsteps falling to the floor simultaneously by the hundreds.

The Slytherin students led everyone to the third floor and Harry didn't understand why they were there.

He looked at the girl's bathroom at the end of the corridor, which was the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets.

Did they know the secret? Even if they did, it would be completely irrelevant. He had already killed the Basilisk himself during the last semester. Even though it was a weapon left by Salazar Slytherin himself to his heir, Harry knew there was no need for a dead Basilisk.

But what surprised him was that he saw that they weren't heading that way. Instead, they all walked straight to the door of Professor Lupin's office and stopped. Their faces all looked focused and tense.

They drew their wands again and looked carefully at the door as if there were monsters inside.

Seeing what they were doing, Harry was even more confused.

What kind of game are the obnoxious Slytherins playing? does Professor Lupin have a troll or something in his office?

He still remembered the professor telling him in the morning that he had something to do and that he had to leave Hogwarts. He shouldn't be there! All the students were staring at an empty room!
