57. Consequences

While my beautiful and intelligent wife-to-be was settling into her new place, not that there was much to see or experience, but as she hadn't arrived the conventional way, it would take time for her soul to adjust.

My sisters decided to show up. I was flipping through a gigantic book, where all the versions of the EU in the multiverse and omniverse were. I could order any one of them whenever I wanted. Bonus from a ROB.

"Did you really decide to carry that name with you?" Death asks me, raising one of her eyebrows.

"Don't you like it? I think Evans is pretty cool." I answer with my eyes still on the book.

"It's not that, it's just that it's weird, finding a ROB with a common name you know. Usually they just use the title." explains Magik, amused.

"Oh, I understand, but I see you didn't come here for that. How can I help my lovely sisters?" I ask now staring at the trio.

"At least he's nicer than the others. Less bad." replies Vida, pulling a chair out of nowhere and sitting down to my right.

"You always see the best in others sister, that's annoying." scolds Death, doing the same. "But I'll be blunt, because we still have other things to fix. When your chosen one left her reality, she created a Nexus.

I know, that's an out-of-universe concept, but it's the best way to explain what's going on in hers. There, the magic's focal point has destabilized, so the number of warlocks is steadily but slowly decreasing.

I estimate that in 50 years from that time, there will be no more magic in the world. So we need either you or her to go back there and live until you die. Relax, there would be no danger, she, if she goes, dies, and come here.

You, without realizing it, have already claimed her soul, or rather, she has claimed her place beside her, so wherever and whenever she wants to go, whenever her time in that world comes to an end, she returns here.

Another thing. She is a, for lack of a better word, angel. The only being other than us who could be in this place without being destructively affected by it. And last but not least.

Unfortunately, no reality will hold if the two decide to visit together, of course, there are ways for this to happen, but it's pretty unpleasant. So I strongly recommend that when you travel, be very careful.

Now, which one of you is going to solve the problem I mentioned?" She looks from me to Hermione, who just sighs and holds up her hand.

"I caused the problem, I fix it." she says very safe.

"With that, that problem is solved. Now let's move on to the second case. Tell him, Magik." Life, it seemed lively, which had me raising red flags.

"You know, whenever we need to change something in our realities, we need a hero right? For us representations of the abstract, that's an unbreakable rule.

We cannot, like you ROBs, just diminish our presence and travel the vast multiverse. We might drop by sometimes, on rare occasions, but that's it," she explains, pausing, looking at me.

"So far I understand, sister, but what do I have to do with it?" I didn't even have to use my 3Os to know how much I would regret asking that.

"Well, you see…" she looked extremely uncomfortable. "We can only choose a new hero when that hero's soul dies, and he goes to reincarnation, and well, you're still my hero, even though you became a ROB.

So I need you to do a job for me. It's not difficult, but as Destiny had written, it's necessary to enforce it, or that universe will disappear." She seemed to be hiding something.

"Isn't that all right? There's something missing." Hermione says, and for some reason, she looks tense. I just look between curious and worried, but she doesn't say anything to me.

"You see, after going to the wizarding world, my hero here would go back to MARVEL, where he would meet the love of his life. That's because, the timeline between these worlds is very different, so that would be where you would be reborn. " she points to Hermione at the end.

"Now I understand the whole problem." comments Hermione. And I just stare at her, waiting for her explanation. "Well, I would be reborn, I would find him, and we would be together, like a reunion.

But I left my universe, so there is no soul to fill the space, nor a person to be reborn. It can also take a completely opposite path from the previous one, which can cause small but remediable problems.

However, if your sister came to ask you to go solve this, it means that this person has a lot of power, or is very important." she finishes, looking at Magik.

"Say she could..." Magic starts, but I cut her off.

"No. Don't say." I look at her calmly but worriedly. "If I know how dangerous she can be, it will make me make the wrong decisions, and cause even more trouble." notice, whichever turn nod in agreement.

"I know your way of thinking, Evans, so I can only ask for help one last time, that's only why I helped you with Mephisto's case back then." comments Magia, making it clear how much I owe.

"Who is Mephisto?" asks Hermione, with a curious, murderous expression.

"A demon lord who worships powerful souls. He wanted that of a certain mage, who used me as a bargaining chip, or something like that. Anyway, before I leave, I'd like to spend some time alone with my beloved."

I get up from where I was sitting, and go to an imaginary window, since, well, anyway.

"Sorry, Evans, really." Magic says, and disappears. Followed by her, add Life and Death.

"What's going on? Why are you so serious?" Hermione walks over, gripping my hand tightly.

"You know, your second question was a tagline from a past movie, in a past life, but whatever. Do you want the truth or just be silent with me?" I look straight into her eyes, trying to manage a smile, but no luck.

"Evans Black, or whatever your real first name is, which I don't care. Tell me the truth." she demands.

I just sigh.

"They said you're an angel. Angels, however powerful and close to us and the Creator, still carry a, for lack of a better word, flaw. You need to be with humans, in a human life.

It is there that they were created to exist. Your case is a little different, because you are between an angel and an archangel. Then you will be reborn, forever and ever, but for that little space of time, you will come here, staying with me.

Each time you are reborn, your memories of this place, and your previous life, will be sealed away, and can only be accessed here. That's the price we have to pay to stay together.

And that's why Magik keeps me her hero, even if she doesn't make any sense anymore. So I can go to the worlds where you were reborn, and live a life with you.

That's also why I accepted. You gave up everything for me, as much as you don't say it with words, I can feel what you feel. That's why I will follow you, no matter the universe, reality, time or whatever."

With nothing else to say, I just hug her.
