Louisa picked up her hand to beat her brows. She had been cleaning for as long as she could remember starting at first, and now, she was worn to a frazzle. She could not even stand erect anymore. Her waist felt like it now belonged to someone else. The good news was that Mrs. Fairfield had just announced, merely two minutes ago, that it was a wrap for the day. The challenge was Louisa had come down the wall of the last room they had finished with and now had her butt glued to the floor. At first, the coldness of the ground shot up her body even up to her brain, but she was too tired to even help herself.

Mrs. Fairfield thankfully did not look back as she kept rolling her legs towards the door. Louisa inhaled deeply then, so sharply that her lungs vanished inside her ribs but she soon let the pressure out.

She just needed to be by herself and cry her lungs out for what it was worth — her mother had been her downfall, she would admit.
