Life Or Death l

A long time had passed ever since the pregnancy incident as far as Rochester was concerned. For Louisa, it had been the hardest sixty-day period of her life as far as missing Rochester but also the smoothest as far as her relationship with her father went.

In the days that followed Louisa returning to the house with her confession, Jacob had felt like he'd let her down by leaving an example of how valued she was and how she need not do so much to get in anyone's good books.

"There is only so much bad in you, Isa," he'd said to her one afternoon. "I know I wasn't involved as much but maybe I should not have allowed your mother to infuse into you too much of her vain thinking."
