Lunaris Bay

"Why do I do it the roundabout way? It's because I have some personal circumstances which make it quite troublesome for me to become active in my social life. But mind you, I'm not a fugitive! And why you? That's actually not hard to answer! It's because just by looking at you, I already knew that you're not the type who enjoys divulging others' secrets just for the sake of fun. Besides, you don't seem to have the guts to do it either."

This guy! Everything he said was fine until the last sentence. Though I wonder what kind of circumstances does he have. He doesn't seem to want to share it with me though. But seriously, he knew all that just by looking at me?

"Uhh… Am I that easy to read?"

"VERY! And not just easy! You are an open book. You stick out like a sore thumb that it was so obvious that you weren't so familiar with the streets with the way that you have to check EVERY SINGLE CORNER before you take a turn. How you touch your wallet when you were looking at the food stall which was basically you shouting to everyone that you're broke."

"WAIT!! Just how closely were you observing me to notice all that? And I didn't even notice you at all!"

"Hmm… Let's just say that I have really good observation skills which only made me a very good informant. I'm talented you see."

This guy doesn't seem to really forget about praising himself huh.

"So? What do you think? You get to have a job and I will provide you with the information that you needed. And I get to have the money and the food. It's a win-win situation. I don't see any reason for you to decline."

Indeed, I don't see any reason for me to decline his offer as well. What's more, is that he's also benefitting from this. If he's not getting anything out of this, I wouldn't even need to think twice. There's no reason for me to consider it because I've always believed that free things are the most expensive.

"What do you want me to do then?"

"About that! Hmm… Let's talk about that tomorrow. It's getting late you see. And I needed to have at least five hours of sleep to function as a normal living being. So see you tomorrow!"

And with that, he transformed back into a rabbit and hopped out of the window. I went to see him out but he was already gone. So with nothing to do, I closed the window, hopped on the bed, and retired for the night.

Heh! Tomorrow huh.

At 4:00 a.m., 17th July 1521, Lunaris Bay.

For Kai to be sure not to be late with the first trip, we arrived at the Lunaris Bay thirty minutes earlier than the departure time. To get here, we had to double ride a carriage at three in the morning. But when we arrived, there were already a lot of people waiting.

We shivered as the salty wind blew. It's still four in the morning and we had to wait for thirty minutes at the waiting area until the ferry will set off. I regretted not wearing a jacket.

From what I read at the library yesterday, Lunaris Bay is connected to Berkton Bay, a natural harbor, through the Wakaboro river, the largest river in the Lumor Kingdom.

"Jack, from hereon you have to learn how to manage your finances on your own. It's up to you if you still want to keep living in that apartment or you want to go to a cheaper or to a much better one, it's up to you. Also, don't forget to take care of yourself. Don't get too carried away when you got your first pay…"

"I'm not a kid, Kai. Don't worry about me. I'm a responsible adult." Really, why do you sound like you're dying or something. And sigh… It's making me guilty. Good thing you're leaving, I don't know if I can keep on doing this for a few more weeks longer.

"Don't forget to write me a letter, okay?" Kai told me before he boarded the ferry.

"Of course, I won't. You too, be careful out there."

I stood there until I can no longer see the ferry that had just departed. After that, I went back to the apartment and went back to sleep. I felt like I haven't slept for ages so I slept like a log. I was only awoken by the clicking sound by the window. Apparently, someone is throwing pebbles again.

Groggily, I stood up. Checked the vintage mahogany wall clock and found out that it was already nine in the morning.

"Goodness! What took you so long?!" Ethan complained in his rabbit form followed by the semi-transparent grayish-white smoke that emerges from his small body with a "poof" as he transform into a white-haired young man.

"I was sleeping," I said in an uninterested manner.

And just like last night, Ethan dragged the chair from the table towards the bed, acting like he owns the house.

Sitting with his right leg crossed over his left, he then told me, "Tell me what you're good at."

"Like what?'

"Let's say, for example, have you gone to school? If so, what did you major in? Do you have any talent? Or anything you're good at?"

"Why are you asking me this again?"

"Idiot! How can I find you a job if I don't even know what you're good at?" He scoffed.

"I see. I graduated from Sratol University. I studied literature."

"Oh? You're smart then. And here I thought you were an empty head because you don't seem to be the studious type. Turns out you actually majored in literature. I see."
