Dressing Up Like a Real Gentleman

"Great! Since you have a degree in literature, why don't you just become an educator or a university professor? It's easier for both you and me."

Hoy! Hoy! Doesn't mean Jack Miller graduated from University while majoring in literature means Sean is good at literature. That's not included in the "memory package"! Heck! I don't even remember Greek and Roman mythology and I only know Romeo and Juliet from all the other literature out there. Much less the literature of this world which up until now, I've no idea what the name is. Besides, I'll be kicked out before I even start working. I don't know how to teach!

"No, I can't."

"Why?"

"Just like you, I also have my own circumstances making it troublesome for me to work on anything related to literature."

"Hmm… So are you an idiot after all who only passed because your professor no longer wants to see you?" he asked as he cock his head to the side.

I'd like to chop your tongue off.

"Think of it however you like! So? You have any other recommendations? Mr. Informant?"

"Of course! I've got a ton of jobs for you to choose from. Which job do you prefer? Would you rather have a job that requires you to use your brain or you prefer to get physical? Though I would advise you to choose the physical one but looking at your muscle-deprived body, you'd rather reconsider."

Intelligence or physical job huh. Of course, do I even have the choice? I am not an idiot by any means but my knowledge about this world is basically lacking. What's more, is that there are so many uncertainties out there. I mean, until last night, I didn't even know there were shapeshifters existing here. The question is, were there only shapeshifters?

"Physical jobs. What are the choices?"

"Hmph! Exactly what I expected. I'm not even surprised anymore. There are many. Well, you can choose from those laborious ones which will suck you dry all while only having a so-so income. Or you can also choose the ones doing odd jobs. Though the salary is quite high. It's your call."

Odd jobs? It's not prostitution, is it? Though I'm a man, I can't be too sure in this world. Who knows if they have a thing for male bodies here?

"Specifically what kind of odd jobs are we talking about here?" I can't just dive headfirst without knowing anything about the situation I am getting myself into. Who knows if it's a rabbit hole?

"Hmm… I can't be too sure!" he shrugged.

"What kind of informant are you?"

"Hey! I'm telling you, there's no way I can be too sure! It's just too random and the job depends on the request of the client."

"What do you mean?"

"Exactly how it sounds like. The job depended on the request of the client. You can refuse of course. But the harder the job is, the higher the pay."

Is it like an agency or something?

"What are the things most commonly requested?"

"How would I know? The requests are confidential. How about you go there and ask? The only thing I am certain of is that you can refuse it if you don't like it. And that you will be signing a contract about confidentiality and stuff."

So it's not mandatory huh. Well, it doesn't sound like a bad idea.

"But I'll have to let you know that if you refuse a job then you of course you won't get paid either."

I understand that much.

***

"Do you have any clothes?"

"I wonder what kind beggar am I inside that head of yours. Of course, I have!" I said as I pointed to the clothes rack at the corner of the room.

"No! No! No! What I meant by clothes are proper clothes. You needed a suit, a hat, and maybe a cane but that's optional. Doesn't mean you're doing odd jobs means you can just wear whatever you want. You will be dealing with nobles here most of the time, you understand?"

Hoy! You haven't mentioned anything about the nobles. How would I know?

"No, I don't have any."

"Do you have cash with you?"

"Yes"

"How much?"

"Kai, my older brother, gave me 150 demi and I have 47 demi. 197 demi in total."

"Great that should be enough!"

Standing in front of the small shop with glass windows and door. From the outside, you can see the mannequins dressed in fancy clothes while striking different poses.

"This shop sells high-end clothes and accessories that are already used. Though they're second-hand, they're cheaper than the new ones." as Ethan said that, he pushed the door open and went inside. I followed suit.

"Good day, misters! How can I help you?"

"Good day to you as well! A three-piece suit for this gentleman here please."

Seeing him interact with the saleslady made me wonder. Where does all his confidence come from?

"Great! You finally looked like a human being now!" Exclaimed Ethan the moment I stepped out of the dressing room for the nth time dressed in a red single-breasted vest, black coat, and a cravat tie, striped gray high-waisted pants, and black boots.

"That will be 162 demi in total." said the cashier at the counter.

What?! So expensive!!

Exactly after getting out of the shop, I turned to Ethan and told him, "You said it's cheap. Now, I only have 35 demi."

"Mr. Jack, do you know that a brand new three-piece suit would cost you double the amount of what you paid?"

"Still… why didn't we just go to a tailor instead? I think it would be fine even if it doesn't have a brand."

"Then, we will have to wait for a couple more weeks. I don't think we can wait for that long, Mr. Jack."

Sigh!
