Walking Skeleton

Unlike Ethan who had an inhuman skill capable of jumping inside without any care about his life, I had to use the ladder to get down. But trust me when I say that I have been having a conflicted feeling throughout the process. The scene in which I fell from the rope ladder just kept on replaying in my head like some sort of a broken record.

As soon as I finally reached the ground, I saw Ethan standing — his arms crossed across his chest. While the will o' wisp circling around him.

By the way that he's giving me a cold treatment, he seems to be mad at me. Because usually by this time, he would already tell me all sorts of nonsensical things in the most sarcastic way possible. But now, he was just silent. And I tell you, I would rather have him shouting at my face than endure his silent treatment. It's the worst feeling.

How am I supposed to act around him at this point?

I pulled the hood of my cloak lower covering almost half of my face. For reasons unknown, I cannot meet him in the eye.

"Let's move. We'll get there soon enough. This is a shortcut," he finally said something. But his voice was still cold. He's definitely mad. Though I honestly think mistaking a will o' wisp for something else is a very shallow reason to get mad at.

He started walking with the will o' wisp that is floating in front of him.

Only now did I finally notice. But we're currently in a sewer. I looked around and the place took me by surprise. It was huge. No, that would be an understatement. It's gigantic! A colony serving an entire community might even fit inside. Not an exaggeration.

Back on earth, the sewers we have only consisted of pipes too small for an adult to enter. Though I can't really know for sure with the other countries but that's how it was in my place at least.

This world never failed to amaze me every single time.

The whole place was so silent that all we can hear were our footsteps as we walk on the metallic bridge-like path echoing in this large space.

We didn't speak even a single word throughout. I was only focused on following him. And to be honest, I don't remember which way we come from. Because this sewer is just way too vast for its own good. Is it under the whole city or something?

Heh! It can't be.

Soon enough, Ethan finally stopped. He turned to me while pointing to a yet another ladder and said, "We're going up."

He didn't wait for my response and he started climbing.

After we placed the manhole lid back to its original spot, he returned the will o' wisp back to the bottle. He then began walking in the opposite direction. He didn't even tell me anything.

Ha! What was so bad about what I said to deserve this kind of treatment?

Not wanting to be left behind, I followed him immediately — half-running. This sort of movement was definitely the worst for me in my current condition now. As my hipbone and my right arm are moving funnily.

I wanted to take it easy of course but the thought of what would happen to me in less than thirty minutes later and we haven't reached our destination yet far more horrified me. I would rather endure it now.

Soon enough, we reached a familiar place. A cemetery.

"Uhh… Ethan, what are we doing here exactly?" I asked.

I hope you're not so mad at me to the point of wanting to bury me alive.

"You'll see."

We didn't enter through the entrance because we know that there were some people guarding it on a graveyard shift. We didn't want to get caught obviously so we took a detour.

At this point, I have already given up on asking about literally every single thing. It was pointless anyway, Ethan won't answer and if not, he will only say, "You'll see". Though honestly, I'm still bothered by the way he reacted.

Currently inside the cemetery somewhere in the middle, he suddenly stopped. And so did I.

And soon after, something emerges from behind us which made me jerk my head.

And just when I thought nothing would surprise me anymore, I couldn't be any more mistaken. There were two skeletons walking towards us. The other is wearing a tuxedo while the other is wearing a blood-red dress.

A walking skeleton.
