"If the loss was not due from the poison, then what?" The priest asked. The doctor looked at the King and back at the priest.
"It seems that her body rejected the child. It was at a good size, so I know that she was taking very good care of it. Perhaps she was stressed. We have found that if a woman has too much stress put on her body. She can lose the child. Have you seen any signs?"
"No, not that I saw." Joseph spoke out. Danzel head lifted up and looked at the ceiling. He was remembering everything that she had told him. She was stressed. She just lost the child because if it.
"Your highness." Danzel heard the old man call out to him. "What about you?" Danzel nodded.
"She had been." He spoke just under his breath. However, with the hallway being so quiet, both men heard him as if he said it loud and clear.
"Oh, my highness." Joseph spoke. The doctor nodded.
"So it was because of stress. Maybe it's just not your time to have children." The doctor spoke out. Danzel bit his lip and squeezed his hands into a fist. There were several signs that she was not okay, but she kept saying she was fine. It was partially his fault as well. He should have been a better husband and forced her to see this doctor before something like this had happened. Their baby was dead due to him not paying attention and her not telling him. Danzel's body shook with anger and sadness mixed together. He wanted to yell at someone, and cry about what just had happened.
"Your-," The doctor started, but was stopped by the priest who lifted up his hand and shook his head.
Moments later, a young maid came out of the bedroom holding a sheet that was stained with blood. Danzel could barely look at the woman knowing that she was holding his unborn child. His wife was in the room and he didn't know if he wanted to go inside or stay outside. If he did go in, he wouldn't know what to say. Danzel slid down the wall into a sitting position. He pulled his knees up to his chest, wrapping his hands around his knees and barring his head between his legs and quietly wept. Joseph stayed by the Kings side not saying a word. The doctor had already made his leave several minutes ago.
Jaysa laid on the best on her side. Her body was in so much pain. That doctor had given her some medication, but it had not relieved the pain. Jaysa's face was stained with tears that had finally stopped. Her body could no longer produce any more tears. Jaysa pulled herself into the fetal position. No one was in the room, so it was completely silent. Danzel hadn't even come inside the room. Horrible thoughts ran through her head. She knew that he was going to blame her for the child's death. Since he had yet to come inside, she had the feeling that he was already plotting how she was going to die. She was scared. She wanted to be somewhere else but there. Jaysa closed her eyes. She wanted to just stop this suffering.
"Jaysa." A voice spoke out. "Jaysa." Jaysa opened her eyes and realized that she was no longer in the bedroom that she had gotten so used to. Instead she was now in a field filled with flowers. She knew this place. Her head shot up as she lifted up half of her body off of the ground.
"Mother!" She yelled out. She looked around. Her mother was somewhere. She had not seen this field since she was in the cells. Jaysa sat up and felt the wind blow through her hair. Even though she knew this to be a dream, it still felt so real. Jaysa put a stand of her hair behind her ear keeping it out of her face. She looked around and was shocked when a dress appeared right in front of her eyes. It was as white as angel wings. She looked up to see the face that she could barely remember now. It was her mother. She smiled down at the girl. Jaysa tried to smile back. The older woman brought down a hand allowing Jaysa to grab it. Her mother pulled her up onto her feet. She looked down at her daughter. It seemed like years had passed since she last saw her mother, even though this was not real.
"What is wrong my child?" Her mother questioned. Jaysa looked up and spoke.
"I think I have messed up big time." Jaysa tried to speak without choking on her words. Tears were able to fall down her already stained face burning her eyes more then what they were already.
"Why do you think that?" Her mother asked. Jaysa touched her stomach.
"I lost what was most precious to the King." Her mother looked down at the swollen belly that no longer held a child she knew it once did. Her mother reached for her daughter's hands and brought them up to hers.
"My dear, stuff like this happens. We can't stop it." Jaysa saw the smile on her mother's face. "Only thing that you would have to do is just try again." She looked at her daughter, her eyes were sparkling. "You want this to work right?" Jaysa nodded her head. "You made the choice not to take the poison. So you made the choice that you were going to stay with that man correct?" Her mother stroked her daughter's cheek. "Just try to work everything out. I know you can." Her mother smiled. Jaysa closed her eyes as she felt the warmth of her mother's hand. She opened her eyes to see Danzel looking at her. He had his hand on her cheek. She pushed half of her body upward and started at the man in front of her with confusion and shock.
"When did you..." She tried to asked but her voice started to drift away. Danzel pulled his hand away from the girl and looked at her.
"You were talking in your sleep." He spoke. "Who were you dreaming about?" Jaysa sat up and did not look at the man.
"My mother." She quietly responded. A tear fell from her eye and Danzel wiped it away. "She said to try again." Jaysa smiled and looked at Danzel for a moment then turned her eyes away from him again. Danzel nodded before she turned her gaze away from him. However, Danzel never moved his gaze away from her. Because of this, she had to ask him why he was staring at her so intensively.
"Do you know what day it is?" She shook her head. "You have not awakened for three days. I was getting worried about you." He said in a gentle voice. Jaysa's eyes shifted to his and over to the door.
"Has Madison come in?" Jaysa question. Danzel shook his head.
"Since the beginning, we had her stay away until we knew you were better." Jaysa turned back to her husband.
"So you did not let her see me. That is quite cruel." She tried to sound sarcastic but she was so tired that it did not come out that way.
"Sorry." He apologized.
"How long have you been here?" Danzel stayed quiet for a moment. Did he not want to tell her? She gave a puzzled look to way he was not answering a simple question. She wanted him to say something, but nothing came out. Jaysa laid back down. That was when she noticed her stomach was no longer as big as it was before. She had lost the child. She didn't know why, but it still pained her. She reached down to her stomach and her hand was caught by Danzel's. He gave it a gentle squeeze. It was as if he was saying that it was okay. Jaysa brought his hand close to her breasts and held it with both hands tightly.
"I'm still tired, but I don't want you to leave."
"Don't worry. I'm not going anywhere." He squeezed her hand again. She smiled and closed her eyes again.
