After Salem and her dad drove off, her father began to talk.
"So, how was your day? Do you want to play with Lilith again?" He asked her in a happy tone. But Salem know that it was just fake. Even then it made her like him because even when he was down he tried to make her happy.
"Yes, of course. I would love to." Salem said with an emotionless voice.
They talked like this for a while, but suddenly her father made a full break. Salem wasn't prepared and was flung forwards and pulled back by her seat belt. Before she had the chance to ask her father what is going on, she saw a truck driving into the side of her car. This ended up with both cars falling down the cliff. The last thing she saw before she blacked out was the terrified face of her father.
Nagato slowly woke up when he looked around he was in a forest in his car, the front window having a huge hole on the side of the passenger seat. The hole reminded him of what happened before he lost his consciousness. He looked around panicked, searching for a hint of Salems location. He didn't have to search for long.
He couldn't believe what he saw, Salem's corpse hanging in her spider webs, proof of Salem's desperate attempt to save her life. If it wasn't his daughter's dead body hanging there it would look, in a twisted way, beautiful with the full moon behind the corpse and the blood having a strong contrast to Salem's pale skin.
Her head was turned 180 degrees, her arms and legs twisted and her whole body was covered in blood. For Nagato, there was no doubt when was dead. He fell down. In the short years where he came to know Salem and where he spent nearly all his time with his daughter doing father-daughter bonding, he began to love her as a daughter more and more, even with the conditions under which Salem came to be.
Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed movement. Focusing more on Salem's body he could see faint rising and falling of her chest and a faint voice coming from her direction.
"Please, I don't want to die, not after I made a new friend." Coughing violently the thin webs cut deeper into her skin and flesh. Nagato tried to help her, but she hang too high into the air impossible for him to reach.
"Aggh, fuck. I knew I shouldn't have accepted the contract. Crashing into the car of the son of a millionaire itself sounds like a stupid idea, doing it at night and on a road like this simply called for trouble."
The voice of a man came out of the nearby bush. Nagato heard what the man said and wanted to jump up and get the man. But he couldn't move his legs anymore.
Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you see it, Nagato wasn't the only one who heard the man. Salem, as soon as she heard the man's words, in her half-dead state seemed to have regained some strength making it possible for her to break free from her webs and swing with the last webs sticking on her body towards the unsuspecting man landing right on top of him.
The second she landed on him she bit him in his neck.
The man couldn't even mutter a single word before having ripped out half of his throat. Leaving him only the chance to let out a gurgle before entering eternal sleep. Salem however was not done. She began to rip out massive chunks of flesh gulping it down at the same time.
Nagato wanted to stop her but he couldn't move. And when he tried to shout her name he began to vomit because of this horrible scene of his daughter killing and eating another human being.
Well, vomiting was the wrong word, as nothing came out of his mouth. Only now, as he was bent over, he noticed why he couldn't move his legs were gone or in the process of vanishing. Now only then stumps are still there. He didn't notice it because he was so focused on Salem's now not-so-dead body hanging in the air.
'What is happening to me.' He taught alarmed. 'I am only see-through like right now when I'm in my Quirk 'astral body' but should not be the case right now as I can see further than ten meters.'
It took him only a short amount of time before he put all the pieces together. He was dead. Dead before he even began to search for Salem. But his Quirk made him able to stay just a little bit longer on earth.
As the name implies, his Quirk lets him detach his astral form or better said soul from his body for a short while. While in his astral form he can't be seen nor can he interact with things around him such as doors and he could simply go through walls. But he could only see ten meters far, everything else is hidden by a black veil.
As he realized he tried everything to not vanish. It was futile he slowly faded away the last thing he saw was Salem ripping out the heart of the man she killed before eating it whole.

Just an Author note.
Sorry for not updating for so long. I was playing games with friends and had school stuff to do so I couldn't find time to write a new chapter. Anyway, I had to rewrite this chapter so many times and I am still not happy with how it turned out in the end.
Also, I decided to change a few things and I'm going to edit the earlier chapters soon, as don't want Salem being too young when the mha timeline starts that and some other things so Himiko will not be Himiko anymore and other tiny changes. but for those who don't want to read the first two chapters again, after I edited them, I will make a list of what changed in the next chapter.
