Brethren heir to mankind’s kingdom, the binding between mankind and brethren... Perhaps the Seers had seen such a marriage. I tried to imagine sharing my bed with Alaren, his hands on my body… and my skin crawled. The prince was pretty and might prove pleasant, but he was not my dragon.
My eyes went to where Aurien and Ashara had been against the wall, but they were gone.
“Excuse me,” I said as I stood, deliberately leaving it open as to whether I intended to retire for the night, or merely left to relieve myself.
“Your majesty,” Mesandre hovered, anxiously following me from the chamber.
“I’m going to bed,” I told her under my breath.
“Princess,” she murmured, following me from the hall. “Do you need assistance disrobing?”
“I’ll manage, thank you,” I waved her off. “You should find Ashara and retire, yourselves,” I added maliciously. “It will be another long day tomorrow.”
“Princess,” she dropped a curtsey.
