Chapter 327 ( Humanity )

"Ok, I think that's enough" - said Cloud with annoyance - "I know I'm strong, but not to the point of exaggeration, I mean, Hope of Humanity? That's too big a title for me..."

Cloud wasn't enjoying that big title, because one, he didn't feel deserving of such a big recognition, and two, it was a pain in the ass. If that title kept expanding unchecked, then a lot more burden would fall on his shoulders and the moment he failed, it would all go to shit.

He didn't know who was responsible for giving him such a 'good' title, but if he ever found him, he would give him such a legendary beating that he would be remembered for years to come.

"Better change the subject," Gin said noticing the clear irritation in the blond's voice, "Cloud-san informed me that he has a way to save us."

"Really?!" - exclaimed the survivors excitedly as they felt their hearts pounding. They would finally be safe.

"Yes, Cloud-san already contacted one of his friends to come and pick us up" - Gin replied as they nodded - "He will transport us to the [First Unit] base of operations and then move us to [Fenrir: Far East]."

"[Fenrir]..." - Growled the survivors, only to let out a sigh because it was obvious that as much hatred as they felt for the corporation, they were the only ones who could save them and give them a stable life.

"???" - Cloud frowned when he noticed the drastic change in the survivors' expressions so he walked over to Gin, who was hugging his girlfriend and asked - "Did something happen?"

He was actually curious to know what was going on because maybe it would be a good clue for their current mission.

"The thing is..." - Gin said as he explained everything that had happened with a frown on his face, only to curse every now and then.

Cloud's expression was getting worse and worse - "I see... that explains a lot..."

"I know that not all members of [Fenrir] are bad, but that doesn't change that what they did to us was backwards, and what makes it worse, is that they didn't even try to help us after leaving us at the mercy of all those [Aragami]" - Gin said as he clenched his fist in fury, only to calm down when he felt a delicate hand touch him - "Thank you, sweetheart."

"Ok, I want you to tell my leader when you get to my base" - Cloud said as he thought for a few seconds, only to pull a pencil out of his pocket and take a sheet of paper - "I want you to hand this to him as well, he'll know what to do..."

"Etto... Cloud-sama, could I have your autograph now?" - The woman asked with a forced smile, only for the others to roll their eyes at her, though Cloud had to agree because he knew she wouldn't stop until she got his blessed autograph - "Ok, when I give you the word I want you to leave, I'll take care of clearing the area so you can board the helicopter in peace"

"Thank you, Cloud-sama!" - The survivors exclaimed as tears ran down their cheeks. They were getting closer and closer to their longed-for safe lives.

"Onii-chan ~!" - Shio exclaimed as she entered the room.

"Did something happen, Shio?" - Cloud asked as he raised an eyebrow.

"It's time to eat ~!" - Shio replied with a huge grin on her face.

"Oh, right..." - Cloud nodded calmly as he followed the white-haired young girl.

"Who was the girl?" - One of the men asked as he frowned because he felt she was a bit strange.

"I don't know..." - replied one woman as she cocked her head to one side because she didn't know why, she felt she must be smothering the poor girl - "Ugh... I feel like being cooped up for so long isn't affecting..."

What they didn't understand, was that this was an instinctive response they had developed thanks to their deep hatred of the [Aragami].

Gin frowned when he noticed this because he now felt much more weirded out by the situation - "Maybe we should do the same as them and eat something, after all, we don't need to restrain ourselves with our meals anymore."

"OK!" - exclaimed the other survivors as they prepared to have a feast like no other. Tears kept running down their cheeks as the food never felt so delicious.

* * * * *

"That's interesting..." - Shio said with a slight smile on her face - "They got defensive the moment they saw me, it's so strange yet fascinating ~"

Shio was actually curious about the situation because it was the first time she was so close to a group of humans - "And they weren't that bad either, I mean, I didn't feel any kind of negative emotions among them, like they were at peace even though they were starving for days..."

"Humans are complex beings, Shio," Cloud replied as he looked up at the blue sky. The two were eating a few hamburgers as they walked around the place exterminating all the [Aragami] they came across - "While they are greedy and driven by their desires, there are many who are idiots who think that good deeds solve everything..."

Cloud was sure that if instead of Gin, there was someone else, the situation would have been very different. The [God Eater]'s girlfriend wasn't that beautiful, but her body was a separate issue, that meant that if another man with a little less morals than Gin had replaced him, that poor woman wouldn't be treated as a lady, but as an object to release that man's desires.

"That's what makes humanity so interesting and self-destructive in equal parts" - Cloud added with a smile - "Moral sense, desires, good feelings, depending on the balance of those factors, every human can be different..."

"I see..." - Shio murmured while nodding happily - "I'm learning a lot of things about humans, Onii-san."

"And you know what's the most interesting thing?" - Cloud asked as he stroked the young [Aragami] girl's hair - "That you're never going to stop learning, because a person isn't necessarily going to make the same decision every time. Today they can decide to be a saint, but tomorrow they can decide to be a villain...."

". . ." - Shio frowned when she heard this because it felt strange - "Why?"

"Because humans are not rational beings when making decisions" - Cloud replied calmly - "Or at least not completely..."

"I don't understand..." - Shio said as she continued to devour her burger with a smile.

"When a human makes a decision, there are many factors involved" - Cloud replied as he looked in the direction of the supermarket - "There are so many factors that it's difficult to explain them, and what makes the situation worse is that those factors can be random in their level of complexity."

"Ugh... my head hurts with so many words..." - Shio muttered as she grabbed her head.

"Ha ha ha ha" - Cloud couldn't hold back his laughter when he heard this as a huge smile appeared on his lips.

"Don't make fun of Shio!" - Shio exclaimed as she puffed out her cheeks.

"Ok, I'm not going to laugh anymore" - said Cloud as he took out his communicator to call his friend who had transported him to this place.

"What do you want now, Cloud? I'm tired and I don't want you to ask me for any more favours for a long time..."

"Sorry to interrupt your rest, but I have no one else to call," Cloud said as he shrugged, "You're the only person I can talk to about this."

"I know I owe you a few favours for all the help you've given me, but I wish you wouldn't take them so often, let alone when I finally get my holiday..."

"I'm sorry, but like I said, you're the only one who can help me, at least in the current situation" - Cloud replied seriously.

"I feel like this will come to bite me in the ass later, but well, let's just say I heard you, what do you need from me?"

"I want you to transfer to a group of survivors" - Cloud replied calmly.

"That's for you to ask [Fenrir]... you don't need my help."

"Let's just say that's not a good idea" - Cloud replied as he frowned and began to tell him what had happened.

"I see, that makes some sense... I already knew those motherfuckers were up to no good..."

"Are you coming?" - Cloud asked as he continued to stroke the girl's hair.

"I don't have any other choice, do I?"

"I'm sorry," Cloud replied as he apologised.

"No, I needed a break anyway... being cooped up in this fucking bar for so long is going to make me depressed.... Ouch! Okay, I apologize, though you have to admit this place is trash!"

Cloud just smiled as he heard a woman yelling at his friend as the sound of glass bottles shattering could be heard in the background.

"Tch, now they're making me pay for those bottles that I didn't break, so I hope you'll at least give me a good remuneration for doing the job."

"I know, the money will be in your account when you deliver the survivors to my home base" - Cloud replied calmly.

"At least you're a responsible bastard, it's good to know I can do business with you, Cloud."

"Same here, Cid" - Cloud replied with a smile, though it felt strange to have a friendship with someone with that familiar name.
