Chapter 407 ( Bad Feeling )

5 minutes had passed and Houki was already in the sky checking the surroundings of the area.

Tsubaki had prepared herself to be able to leave at any moment, though unlike before, her expression was much colder.

Sakuya had heard about what had happened, and although she didn't like it, she had to admit that Tatenashi was right, but that didn't mean she couldn't understand Tsubaki's situation, after all, they were talking about her younger brother.

The group of soldiers had advanced a good distance as they prepared to be able to give support the moment they received Houki's signal.

Tatenashi was watching all this from the highest point of the facility with an unreadable expression - "I hope my hunch is wrong."

She had been hard on Tsubaki for one reason only, she had sensed a bad feeling and honestly her instincts had rarely been wrong.

Tatenashi again looked in the direction where her friend had gone, only to turn back inside the facility.

"Tatenashi-san" - Sakuya said upon seeing her teammate.

"I see you also went to see the group off" - Tatenashi replied as she looked at the black-haired, red-eyed woman.

"Yeah, after all, I can't go help them when I have to take care of all these wounded" - replied Sakuya tiredly. She had been busy since the meeting had ended, after all, there wasn't much medical staff.

Tatenashi gave her one last look before continuing to walk towards her room.

"Wait!" - Sakuya exclaimed as she stopped her teammate - "I have a question."

"What?" - Tatenashi asked as she looked at the other red-eyed woman again.

"Why did you act this way with Tsubaki?" - Sakuya asked because she honestly didn't quite understand why she had reacted in such a way.

"If I'm honest, it's because I have a bad feeling" - answered Tatenashi honestly - "And I trust my instincts because they have never failed me".

"There's always a first time for everything, and I honestly don't trust something as unscientific as instincts" - Sakuya replied as she folded her arms.

"I know, they sound like superstitions of mine, but she better be prepared for the worst" - Tatenashi replied as she closed her eyes. She wouldn't explain more about her reasons for having acted this abruptly, after all, she couldn't say something like 'Hi, my instincts became much sharper after following my boyfriend on his journey between dimensions.

". . ." - Sakuya gave Tatenashi a look before shaking her head - "I'd better get back to the infirmary."

"OK, good luck" - Tatenashi replied as she resumed her trek to her room.

"Instincts" - Sakuya muttered as she gave her companion one last glance before she started walking towards her destination.

"Ugh" - Sofia slowly opened her eyes as she let out a groan of pain, only to overreact when she noticed how she was in what appeared to be a room - "Lindow!"

"You're finally awake, Sofia-san!" - Sakuya exclaimed excitedly as she saw how the blonde had woken up.

"Where's Lindow!" - Sofia exclaimed as she ignored her surroundings and focused completely on her teammate. Her eyes were red as if they were bloodshot as she looked around worriedly and noticing how her boyfriend was nowhere to be found.

"I'm sorry to tell you that we don't know where he is" - Sakuya replied as she looked at her teammate with regret.

"Then how was it possible for him to come back!" - Sofia exclaimed as she looked at her friend fiercely.

"The woman next to you, she was the one responsible for bringing you back" - Sakuya replied as Sofia watched next to her and notice how Maria was unconscious. The blonde woman bit her lip as she felt her heart pounding from the sheer worry she felt.

"This is bad" - Sofia said as she looked at Sakuya - "We have to move now! Lindow is in danger!""

"!" - Sakuya's eyes widened in terror - "What happened!"

"I'll explain while we go to the general so he can send support right away!" - Sophia exclaimed with concern. She was completely ignoring the fact that she didn't know how long he had been unconscious, after all, her boyfriend's safety was the most important thing.

"Okay, let's go!" - Sakuya nodded as she helped her friend get up and walk over to where the general was.

"I think it's this way" - Houki muttered as she reached a place full of what looked like craters, more so when she noticed how there was blood on the ground.

The dark brown haired woman frowned when she saw this, but quickly threw a flare to signal the soldiers to come.

A few minutes passed for the group to arrive at the scene, being led by Tsubaki who was looking around with concern.

The soldiers quickly set about thoroughly searching the surroundings because it was obvious that Houki had to have skipped some details from the sky.

"We've found more blood in this direction!" - shouted a soldier as the group advanced worriedly in their direction.

"The battle was tough" - Houki muttered as she slowly advanced towards the place where the blood was most prominent, only to notice how on the ground there was a human arm in bad shape - ". . ."

A deep silence invaded the place while Tsubaki felt like her heart was about to explode from the fear she felt.

"Let's keep moving carefully" - Houki ordered seriously - "I need you to find as many clues as possible."

A group of soldiers quickly pulled out some detectors, only to frown when they noticed how in the area there was a huge amount of activity [Bias Factor].

"Leader Houki, we have important information" - said a member of the logistics team with a neutral expression after receiving the information from all the detectors - "According to our deductions after receiving the information from our readers, the group started fighting against an [Aragami] of rank A or higher, and to increase their chances of survival, they activated their [God Arc] to the maximum, producing an [Aragamification] effect"

"How sure are you of this hypothesis, soldier?" - Houki asked with a frown as he noticed how Tsubaki's breathing seemed to stop for a few seconds.

"95% sure" - replied the soldier seriously.

Houki was silent for a few seconds before preparing to say something, but was struck dumb when she heard how a group of soldiers were shouting that they had found something.

The group quickly advanced in that direction, only to come across the corpse of one of the three men who had stayed behind to fight.

"His name is Mirio, [God Eater] support" - said a soldier as he looked at the mutated body of the man. His body was beginning to expand and fill with scales, giving him a bizarre appearance that proved the logistics team soldier's theory to be correct.

The logistics team soldier slowly approached the body and removed some of the scaly skin from the corpse, put it in a strange test tube, only to finally put it inside a strange device - ". . ."

Houki was silent as he waited for the soldier's deduction.

"Process of [Aragamification], 30%, transformation type, harpy type" - said the soldier of the logistics team, who also functioned as a field scientist - "Status of the target's [Oracle Cells], semi-conscious."

Houki took one last look at the corpse before telling one of the soldiers to burn it so that it would at least get its well-deserved rest.

The soldier from the logistics team was a little disappointed that he could no longer study the test subject, but he said nothing because he knew he would earn the ire of everyone present.

After seeing that the body of their fallen comrade had been turned to ashes, the group continued to move carefully through the destroyed area.

Tsubaki was terrified that they still found no signs of life of her younger brother, but still held out hope that all was well despite what she had seen.

"Leader Houki, we found another corpse!" - A soldier exclaimed as Tsubaki's face paled.

Houki was silent as she and the group continued to move forward, only to notice the mangled body of another man, and to Tsubaki's relief, this was not Lindow's.

"Name, Jeff, [God Eater] Assault" - said a soldier as he sighed regretfully - "[God Arc] type axe, made from the fangs and core of a [Dyaus Pita]"

The soldier from the logistics team quickly pulled out a sample - "Status of [Aragamification], 70%."

". . ." - Houki frowned when she heard this as she tried to get a better look at the fallen soldier's body, only to shake her head when she saw this one was completely mangled. They had managed to get the man's identity only because his ID was still intact.
