Chapter 412 ( Reject )

The two women didn't know what to say after hearing Houki's words because it was obvious that she meant it seriously.

"How can you say something like that!" - Sophia exclaimed with fury when she heard her friend.

"I'm doing the same as you" - replied Houki neutrally as the two women paled - "Lindow may be the most important thing to you, but to me, the most important people in this world are Cloud and Tatenashi!"

Sofia and Tatenashi were completely speechless when they heard this, and worst of all, they couldn't say anything to refute their partner's words because they were acting the same way.

Sakuya watched this in silence as she felt the once harmonious group, split in two with just one event.

"Now that we got that out of the way, it's time for me to go help my partner" - Houki said as she ran into the mist.

The soldiers looked at each other before standing on guard. They had decided to follow Houki's instructions because they had seen how the assigned leader was now nothing but a shadow of her former glory.

Sophia sat on the ground as Houki's words repeated over and over in her head.

Tsubaki's mind was blank, she didn't know what was going on.

Sakuya was the only one of the trio who was in good condition, so she quickly grabbed her two companions and put them in a safe place before going to the soldiers to get ready.

The military nodded when they saw this, at least one of the three was still showing the attitude of a [God Eater]. They didn't care what had happened to Lindow, neither were they interested in the possibility of him returning to his human appearance, no, all they wanted was to be able to complete their mission so they could return home to their families and comrades.

"Enemies approaching!" - A soldier exclaimed as the others braced for impact.

Sakuya watched this silently as she bit her lip. It wasn't that she wasn't in shock with the events that had happened, but unlike Sofia and Tsubaki who were romantically involved, she was still able to keep her judgment clear, all thanks to the fact that she was only a subordinate and friend of Lindow.

It was at that moment that Sakuya could see the difference. When this happened to Cloud, they were shocked by the events, but unlike what happened to Tsubaki and Sofia, Houki and Tatenashi acted normally because they knew that Cloud would find a solution so he could recover, and to their relief, he succeeded. Cloud had not only managed to overcome his primitive instincts, but also to regain his human form.

"But Lindow isn't like that," Sakuya muttered before shaking her head. The information she had received from Tsubaki was terrifying, after all, it was obvious that Lindow's mind was devolving and becoming more and more susceptible to the control of her instincts.

The woman quickly shook her head as she managed to hear the scream of one of the soldiers and quickly began to back them up.

"Die, you sons of bitches!" - Sakuya exclaimed as she continued firing her [God Arc], not caring about what was coming next. She was giving her 200% in order to end this battle as soon as possible.

"It feels so good to know we have support" - muttered a soldier as his eyes glittered slightly, not noticing how the others nodded firmly.

* * * * *

"Ugh" - Tatenashi was groaning in pain as she saw her body and noticed how blood was running lightly down her limbs.

The blue haired woman had cuts all over her body, though her condition wasn't too bad, all thanks to the properties of the mist that surrounded her. She could feel how her wounds were purified thanks to the humidity of the environment, how the mist helped her regeneration, even if it was only a little.

Tatenashi was exhausted, she wouldn't deny it, no, it was better to say that she couldn't do it because she didn't have the energy left.

The battle had been constant and stressful. She could barely maintain consciousness after slaying all the beasts running in her direction.

Corpses lay strewn on the ground as Tatenashi faintly looked up and noticed a silhouette slowly approaching.

"Seriously, you guys don't get bored" - Tatenashi muttered as she groaned in pain while trying to get up with the little strength he had left, only to notice how the creature that was approaching, was one he recognized immediately - "Lindow".

Lindow didn't answer her, he didn't even roar in response. He just watched Tatenashi with a wild gleam in his eyes, as if she was nothing more than prey.

". . ." - Tatenashi fell silent when she noticed this, only to stand on guard because it was obvious that Lindow had disappeared and now only a beast that was being ruled by its instincts remained.

Lindow slowly approached his weak prey as saliva dripped from his mouth.

"That's it?" - Tatenashi asked as she looked at the beast - "Is it possible you don't have the willpower to be able to regain control?"

Tatenashi was trying to talk some sense into the beast, but to her annoyance, it wasn't getting any results.

"I guess this would be it" - Tatenashi muttered as she pointed her spear in Lindow's direction - "I didn't expect such an abrupt termination in our working relationship, Lindow, but I guess I have to move on with my life, I'm going to put some candles on your grave when this is all over."

"ROAR!" - Lindow roared fiercely as he lunged at Tatenashi, only to jump back as a pair of blades went in his direction - ". . ."

"Make that two pairs of candles" - said the newly arrived Houki as she glared coldly at Lindow - "Though it's a pity that we're the ones who have to end your life, Lindow."

"I hadn't thought of it that way" - muttered Tatenashi as she narrowed her eyes - "I guess we'll become enemies with Tsubaki and Sofia"

"I don't care" - replied Houki while squinting her eyes - "Lindow, Sakuya, Tsubaki, Sofia, none of them are as important as you, Tatenashi"

"If I didn't know you were in a relationship with Cloud, I'd think you were a lesbian, Houki-chan" - Tatenashi said with a flirtatious smile - "Too bad because I could feel my heart pounding when you said such nice words to me"

"Can you save your jokes for another time?" - Houki said irritably - "In case you didn't notice, we're about to face that thing."

"Don't be so bitter" - Tatenashi replied with a weak smile, only to let out a small cry of surprise when she felt Houki push her - "What was that for!"

Tatenashi was about to explode, but her expression changed when she saw a gray claw impacting where she had been before - ". . ."

"You were saying something?" - Houki asked as a small, almost imperceptible smile, appeared on his face.

"Thank you" - replied Tatenashi as she ducked her head.

Houki didn't say anything else, she just watched Lindow carefully as her katanas started to glow slightly - "That wasn't nice of you, leader."

"ROAR!" - Lindow responded with a powerful roar full of fury as he saw that his prey had escaped his clutches. He quickly scanned Houki with his wild eyes as he felt how she too was a worthy prey.

"Come, it's time to give you a worthy end" - Houki said as she provoked the beast.

Lindow narrowed his gaze coldly. He didn't understand what the woman was trying to say, but none of that mattered, after all, his only goal was to hunt those two women so he could devour them and thus become stronger.

Wait, why did he want to get stronger?

Lindow stood still for a few seconds as that question replayed in his head.

Why why why why why why why why why why why why why why!

"ROAR!" - Lindow could feel his head begin to ache as those words repeated as if he was playing an old, scratched record.

"Strange" - Houki muttered as she frowned, but she didn't let her guard down - "How long do you need to recover enough to be able to move?"

"A few minutes" - Tatenashi replied with annoyance because she could feel how she was without a shred of energy in her whole body - "You know, come to think of it, this is a bit ironic."

"Ironic?" - Houki asked as she continued to watch as Lindow was lashing her head against the ground.

"Exactly" - replied Tatenashi as she crawled a little further back to prevent Lindow from attacking her so easily - "Since this mission started, we haven't been able to attack together because every time one of us fights, the other one is trying to recover."

"Uh, I guess you're right" - Houki replied as she nodded at the words of her friend and companion - "It's a bit strange, although I have a theory that it has to do to do with the influence of the world."

"It makes sense, ever since we arrived, I've felt as if this dimension rejected us" - muttered Tatenashi as Houki remained thoughtful of her friend's words.
