Chapter 448 ( Kuruta Island - I )

"For now we better prepare a base of operations" - said Cloud while looking around - "Kyōka, I want you to gather as much wood as possible, Kyoko, I want you to prepare everything necessary for our survival, I'm going to investigate the area to check the dangers we have nearby, when you comply with what I told you, I want you to go to the ship to get our things"

"OK" - nodded the two women calmly, after all, they knew that Cloud was the most skilled of the group, as well as the one with the most experience in this kind of thing.

Cloud quickly ran into the jungle, not noticing the surprised expression Menchi had on her face.

"Shouldn't they be a little worried?" - Menchi asked as she looked at the two women and notice how they were as if nothing had happened.

"No, he can take care of himself, I can even assure you that he has faced creatures that are much stronger than you think" - said Kyōka as she snorted in disdain as she saw the devastation that an [Aragami] could cause the world of [God Eater] from the comfort of her mansion.

"That's true" - nodded Kyoko as she began to take out the implements they had purchased for their travels.

". . ." - Menchi fell silent before looking in the direction where Cloud had departed, only to shake her head and set about helping the two women.

While this was part of her test, it wasn't as if she was forbidden from helping the two women a bit.

"By the way, what's the name of this island?" - Kyoko asked as she prepared to set up the inflatable beds they had 'bought'.

"Where did those things come from?" - Menchi asked in surprise as she walked over to Kyoko and looked at the beds in surprise, only to touch them carefully and notice how soft they were despite their plastic material.

"It's an invention from our home" - answered Kyoko calmly - "It's designed to be able to be used during traveling, camping, among other situations."

". . ." - Menchi marveled at the object, only to sigh with regret as she remembered how she had had to practically sleep on the ground during her travels across the continent - "I'm more and more amazed at your objects, or knowledge."

"That's nothing" - Kyōka snorted as she gave the other blue-haired woman a blank look, a look that seemed as if she was looking at a country girl who had just arrived in the city and found everything interesting.

"Be nicer, Kyōka-san" - Kyoko said with a frown as she noticed the woman's attitude.

"No promises, remember that I always speak my mind" - Kyōka replied while shrugging her shoulders.

". . ." - Cloud closed his eyes for a few seconds as he felt the breeze passing around him along with the different scents of the place, only to frown as he noticed how the scents were getting stranger and stranger.

He quickly shook his head and looked around in search of some clues.

Cloud continued to move forward through the jungle while keeping all his sharpened to not miss any detail, although after 10 minutes, he decided to turn back because he found nothing, although this was to be expected, after all, they had just arrived.

Cloud slowly walked back towards the port, not noticing how a small green head peeked out from the bushes. The creature's small black eyes looked curiously at the retreating blond as he felt a strange connection to it, one he hadn't felt with the other humans he had encountered.

Cloud stopped and looked in the direction where the small creature had shown itself, only to frown when he noticed how there was nothing there.

He had felt a glance at his back as he walked back to where the others were, but it seemed he had overthought it.

The small creature again carefully peeked out of sight as he prepared to walk behind the man.

After 15 minutes, Cloud returned to the makeshift camp and set to work.

Menchi was surprised to see how quickly the blond was creating a hut large enough to be able to cover two beds that Kyōka put together.

Cloud also made a personal hut for Menchi to prevent inconvenience between the two of them, which she appreciated because she would be a little uncomfortable with the idea of meddling in a couple's romantic life.

The blond quickly got to work around after building the living quarters for the three of them, after all, they would no longer be able to get help from the ship because they had left after the two women removed all their luggage.

"There, with this we are ready for anything" - Cloud said as he shook his head.

He had set up two huts, an area to prepare food, as well as an area to deposit their things, another to store their food, and finally, an area to put their waste to later incinerate it to prevent disease.

"This will do" - Cloud said as he shook his head.

The constructions weren't very sturdy, but it wasn't as if they would be in this place for long.

"It's much better than I expected" - Menchi replied with surprise as he started to think - "You are much more skilled than I thought".

"It's because I've trained for years" - replied Cloud calmly as he shook his head - "Anyway, I think for today we'd better not do anything extreme, and get used to this strange place."

"Well said" - nodded Menchi with a small smile - "That's the mentality a hunter should have, always be prepared for whatever comes against us."

Kyōka and Kyoko said nothing, they just shrugged their shoulders as they prepared to investigate the surrounding area.

"I made it about 300 meters forward, and found nothing strange" - Cloud said as he folded his arms - "The fruit trees aren't many, and the amount of small animals are laughable."

"That means we'll have to investigate further in order to get food" - said Menchi unconsciously, only to blush as he noticed how she had gotten carried away - "I'm sorry, this should be part of your test"

"I know, and I was thinking the same thing" - Cloud replied as he shook his head - "Actually, I managed to find a river in the distance, so we can get fresh water."

Menchi nodded when she saw this.

She knew that the trio had brought drinking water, but it was a good idea to reconnoiter the terrain to see what kind of supplies they could get naturally, after all, they had to have a contingency plan in case something happened, such as losing their basic supplies like food and water.

"What kind of fish abound in these waters?" - Kyoko asked as she summoned her cat, then raised an eyebrow.

"Nya!" - Kuro looked around curiously, only to twitch her nose as she felt the breeze off the beach.

Menchi began to list each of the fish in the surrounding area, only to finish as she noticed how everyone was looking at her in surprise - "What? Knowing the surrounding animals is a normal thing for even a Gourmet hunter."

"Well, now we know we won't be short of food" - Cloud said as he watched Kyōka walk towards the water and start swimming outwards.

"I don't think that's a good idea" - said Menchi as she folded her arms - "These waters are stinking with sharks".

"You should worry more about the sharks" - said Kyoko as Kuro nodded.

"That's a smart cat" - said Menchi as she saw how the cat not only understood her words, but also seemed to confirm its owner's words.

"Kuro is much more unique than you think" - Kyoko replied as Kuro meowed in confirmation - "And not only that, she's much stronger than she shows."

"This little girl?" - Menchi asked as she raised an eyebrow skeptically, after all, she couldn't believe that a creature as cuddly as Kuro, would be anything dangerous.

Kuro lifted her gaze and watched the woman with her cute big golden eyes, only for Menchi to feel a deep instinctive fear.

Menchi slowly took a few steps back as she felt her body tremble along with a cold sweat running down her back - ". . ."

"Kuro, don't be mean to her" - Kyoko said while petting the small cat.

Menchi slowly sighed with relief as she felt that strange instinctive fear disappear - "W-what was that?"

"That's Kuro's unique ability" - Cloud answered calmly as he looked at Menchi - "What makes her dangerous is not her physical power, but her special ability."

"W-what kind of ability?" - Menchi asked with a mixture of fear and curiosity.

"Sorry, that's a family secret" - answered Cloud with a smile that honestly didn't calm the woman's curiosity.

"I understand" - nodded Menchi as she started thinking about all the cat breeds she knew, only to frown as she noticed how none of them seemed to have Kuro's characteristics, neither the level of danger that made her react this way.
