Chapter 449 ( Kuruta Island - II )

A week had passed since the start of Cloud and the others' ordeal, and the group had yet to go into the jungle, though this was not out of fear, but because they were making all the necessary preparations, as well as training as much as they could.

Kyōka had finally managed to finish with the creation of his Nen technique, which he had named [Hermit Seed] in reference to the seeds of the [Dragon Ball] world. She did this for two reasons, one because it had a similar function, and two because it was related to her [Bloodline], or at least the name.

Kyoko's training was a bit slower, she was still unable to recognize what type of item she would decide to materialize, although after talking it over with Cloud, she decided not to restrict her choice and instead of just one item, materialize a set with different rules.

This she decided after remembering her husband's weapon, [Sephiroth].

The technique she created, she decided to call it [7 destinies] because it would be 7 objects with different powers, although it was not yet complete because for now she only had the first object. [7 Destinies: Chain].

Kyoko's chain had only one basic function aside from its resistance, and that was that it could automatically capture any creature that was hostile against the user, though that didn't mean it couldn't be used conventionally against other targets.

"It's good to see her training progressing satisfactorily, but it's a bit annoying that Cloud isn't showing her results" - Menchi said as she folded her arms.

She had been helping the two women train their Nen, after all, she was an expert on the subject, but every time she tried to help Cloud, he disappeared without a trace.

"He never liked people to know about his most important techniques because you never know when someone might say something" - Kyōka replied while shrugging her shoulders.

"Are you saying that I can't be trusted?" - Menchi asked while frowning.

"No, I'm just saying that we don't know where your loyalty lies" - replied Kyōka as she folded her arms - "And don't try to play the victim because I've been watching you closely, seeing how you try to get information about our abilities, and I'm sure Cloud noticed it too, that's why he disappears."

Menchi started to sweat when she heard this as she felt a cold sweat run down her back.

"Relax, we don't plan to do anything against you" - Kyōka replied as she rolled her eyes at her - "If so, we would have done it a long time ago."

"As for me, I have nothing to hide, and my technique isn't showy enough to be considered an ace up my sleeve" - replied Kyoko while shaking her head - "At least for now"

"I'm one of those people who fights head on, so I don't like to hide my moves" - answered Kyōka while explaining about why they hadn't hidden their training despite knowing that they were being analyzed - "As for Cloud, he's very different. He doesn't like to show more than he has to because he knows that at any moment he could be attacked."

"That's a bit of a sad thought" - Menchi said as she shook her head - "To think that he's being watched constantly has to make his mind in a constant state of tension."

"That's not what I was trying to say, but in a way it's correct" - Kyoko replied as she shook her head, after all, Cloud was in a constant state of tension as he was the pillar bearing the weight of her along with all her companions.

The moment Cloud fell, they would fall with him, and return to their more 'pure' state.

Just thinking about that situation, made Kyoko tremble.

She had seen her fate, and sincerely didn't want to know that at any moment she would have to die such an agonizing death.

The other girls were also aware of their fates, they had researched it, and although some were surprised at the direction their 'true' identities had taken, they were still of the mindset that their current lives were better and they wouldn't change them for anything.

"But he's not the only one who's tense" - Menchi said as she looked at the two women - "Right?"

"Exactly, we too have many worries, the most important being that if we don't try hard enough, we ourselves will lose sight of our beloved and idiotic husband" - Kyōka replied as she folded her arms.

Kyoko remained silent while nodding firmly - "And not only that, we could be the ones causing the strongest pain he could suffer if our power doesn't grow steadily"

Menchi was silent for a few seconds before looking at the two women with eyes full of understanding. She could feel the conviction in the two women's words.

"Anyway, let's better leave that topic until here" - said Kyōka while shaking her head - "Now that we know what you are doing, why don't you tell us about the reason for your 'curiosity'?"

"Direct orders from the president" - replied Menchi because she knew that the trio had already come to this conclusion.

"I knew it, that old man is more cautious than I thought" - Kyōka muttered while snorting with disdain.

"It's not like we can blame him either" - Kyoko replied while shaking her head as she looked at her traveling companion's annoyed expression - "Cloud's power is already great, and if he can devour his opponents' Nen abilities, his power will be that much greater."

Menchi nodded at Kyoko's words as she let out a sigh of relief that the two women seemed unbothered by her mission.

"You have a point" - nodded Kyōka as she shook her head - "Though it's a pity he doesn't want to tell us about his ability."

"Really?" - Menchi asked with surprise because she didn't expect these words.

"I gain nothing by lying to you" - replied Kyōka while shaking her head - "He's been all this week telling us that it's a surprise."

"It's a bit annoying, but somehow I understand why he hasn't told us" - Kyoko added while giving Kyōka a blank look - "She's not the best person to keep secrets because of the way she is, and I could get the truth out of her with a little force."

Cloud was meditating in the middle of the river he had found earlier with only a pair of shorts covering his lower parts.

He was with his eyes closed, breathing calmly as he felt the breeze of the place and the water running down his body.

The blond was watching as the aura was coursing through his body carefully because he didn't know if this new way of controlling his power, would wreak havoc on the weak balance that kept his body stable.

Cloud was so focused on his state, that he didn't notice how the creature that had been spying on him before, again had returned and was watching him from the river bank.

". . ." - the little creature was still watching Cloud with curiosity in its eyes as it resisted the urge to swim in his direction to see his condition because it had been quite a while since that strange human had last moved.

After a few more minutes, the creature jumped into the water and swam in his direction.

Cloud noticed these movements and opened one eye, only to watch in surprise as a creature he immediately recognized stopped in the middle of the river with an expression of absolute terror.

"The Jackalope" - Cloud said as he continued to the small green rabbit with deer antlers on its head.

The little creature was still not moving a muscle, as if it was wishing that by not moving, he could mimic the environment, although it was obvious that this was not working from the way that human was looking at him.

Now, the little Jackalope wondered why he had made the stupid mistake of having approached that human, only to notice how he was taken while thinking about his bad situation.

"Relax, I don't plan on doing anything to you" - Cloud said while looking closely at the Jackalope, and noticing how he looked just like the illustration of the monster card from the game [Yu-Gi-Oh!]

". . ." - the Jackalope stared at him silently before nodding weakly because he could no longer escape, though something inside him told him that the man in front of him wasn't lying.

"Why did you approach me?" - Cloud asked curiously, after all, this type of creature was not only sneaky, but also very cautious. They didn't show themselves unless it was extremely necessary, or they were playing some prank on their victims.

What Cloud didn't know, was that the Jackalope was thinking the same question.

Why did he approach this human even though he was dangerous?
