Chapter 622 ( Conclusion )

Eri looked at Cloud with a pale face because she wasn't expecting this, more so when she felt how he was becoming more and more aware of the pain - "Ah!"

"Now, we both know that things are going to end badly if we keep thinking the way we do, so let's take a few steps back and continue with the negotiation" - Cloud said neutrally as his dagger penetrated the girl's neck a little more.

Eri gritted her teeth as she glared hatefully at the blond, but said nothing to refute the blond's words - "Ok, but how do we do this?"

Cloud was silent for a few seconds before he could come to a conclusion.

"Let's do this, you release Shizuku and I let you go" - Cloud answered simply.

"We're back to square one, the moment I let Yaegashi go, my life is in your hands" - Eri growled neutrally.

"You solve it fast, I'm sure the demons must have given you a contract" - Cloud said sarcastically.

"How?" - Eri exclaimed in surprise, only to frown - "Ok, you know what, I'm not even going to ask how you found out about the contracts."

"Just by those words alone, I'm sure you have a contract" - replied Cloud with disdain - "Well?"

"You win, let's make the contract, I let her go and you let me escape" - Eri growled with annoyance because this contract was the payment she had received for betraying her companions, and it was possibly the best answer to be able to fulfill her goal in the future, but such it seemed that now she had to use it to save her life - "You're going to pay for making me spend this very important object"

"I'll be waiting for you to come against me, but I warn you only one thing" - Cloud said while squinting his eyes - "If you attack the people around me, I promise you that your death will be a slow and painful one."

Eri gritted her teeth with fire in her gaze, though she said nothing in response. She had felt the blond's power, she could even sense a huge shadow swimming at the bottom of the abyss that signified her opponent's soul.

Cloud looked into her eyes as he noticed how they seemed to cloud with darkness in his heart - "Well?"

Eri clicked her tongue before invoking the contract.

The two quickly signed it after seeing that the details were right.

Cloud released the girl as he watched the skeletons disappear.

"It was a pleasure doing business with you" - Cloud said sarcastically.

"Keep quiet, Strife" - Eri growled as she took a potion from her inventory and took it so she could heal the wound on his neck - "I hope we don't meet again, because next time, your life will be in my hands."

"I'll look forward to it" - Cloud replied as he watched the girl leave silently, then looked at Kaori and Shizuku - "Are you okay?"

The two girls reacted with his words and quickly ran to hug him with their trembling bodies.

They still didn't quite understand what had happened, or how it had all ended so quickly.

Kaori was sweating, terrified with everything that had happened, especially the part where she was about to be abused by one of her former classmates.

Shizuku was pale, she had felt death touching her face, unable to do anything to stop it.

"I guess so" - Cloud muttered as he shook his head and started to comfort the two girls.

It took half an hour before the girls were able to calm down, though still noticing the fear in their gazes.

Cloud had taken advantage of the girls' distraction to cremate Daisuke's body to prevent future problems.

"Are they better?" - Cloud asked as he looked at the two girls.

"Yes," Kaori murmured as she took the blond's hand.

Cloud noticed how the girl seemed to be freezing, so he used some fire magic in order to give her some warmth.

Shizuku was silent, trying to think of something else while ignoring the helplessness she felt for being defeated so easily - "I'm sorry, if I had been strong enough."

"Don't talk anymore, it wasn't a matter of weakness or strength, it was a difference in attitudes" - Cloud replied with a frown - "Let's be honest, those two are no longer normal humans, they are monsters with human appearance because they would kill whoever they were to fulfill their desires, you, on the other hand, are still ordinary humans, you still think rationally and have a high sense of morality"

"And what are you?" - asked Shizuku with a frown - "You have killed without remorse, you have fought in the abyss, does that make you a monster?"

"Yes, I am a monster, I don't mind getting my hands dirty, I don't care if people see me as an abomination, there is nothing I can't do to fulfill my wish" - Cloud replied neutrally as he looked at the two girls with cold eyes - "I am not the same person you met in the other world, I am someone different, I am a full-fledged monster."

"A monster wouldn't help a little girl like Myu-chan" - Kaori said as she looked at the blond - "A monster wouldn't have come to help us."

"Kaori is right, you say you're a monster, but you're more human than you think" - added Shizuku as a small smile appeared on her face - "In fact, I feel that your humanity is much more pure than ours, you're honest with what you want and you don't try to disguise it, you're kind and affectionate to those around you"

"Come to think of it, rather than a human, that sounds like a territorial animal" - Kaori said as she let out a cute little laugh - "It's like a daddy fox defending his mate and his cub."

Cloud remained silent with a neutral expression as the two girls laughed lightly.

"If you two have stopped laughing at me, you might as well go back home, I don't think you have the mentality to be able to travel" - Cloud said as he clicked his tongue.

"Oh, don't even think about it" - Kaori snorted as she narrowed her eyes - "You're not going to use this as a way to get rid of us."

Cloud was silent as he watched the two girls walk towards the entrance.

If there was one thing he had to admit, it was that there were some times he didn't understand women, and the other thing was that he was impressed at how adaptable some people were. The two girls had just been through a crisis, and now they were business as usual, although it was quite possible that this was just a way of being able to push those thoughts away so they wouldn't face them in the near future.

"I see" - Yue muttered as she nodded with a frown - "That explains why you took so long, and also why those two seem closer."

Shea remained silent, then walked over to the two girls and talked to them.

Tio remained silent, thinking about the overall situation, and how the demons seemed to be starting to make bolder moves.

"What do they think?" - Cloud asked as he watched as Myu was observing everything from the top of his military vehicle.

"That we'd better prepare for the future" - Tio replied as she folded her arms - "The mad god is our ultimate goal, but to get to him we'll have to first take on everyone he puts in our way, and seeing the way the demons act, it's obvious that they're part of his forces."

"You could see it coming, I mean, it was too obvious" - Cloud answered with disdain - "Although more than being part of his forces, I would say that it's the leader who is responsible for everything."

"We haven't talked to too many demons to be able to be sure about this" - nodded Yue while frowning - "Although if I'm honest, for now I hold the same opinion as Tio because demons are a race of savages."

"The desire to dominate is in the deepest part of their blood" - Tio added with a frown - "It's as if they were created specifically to serve as the "antagonists" of humans"

"Let's face it, humans are just as savage too" - Yue replied with disdain - "They may not be as "dark" as demons, but they're no slouch"

"You're right, humans are just like demons, full of sins, dark emotions, corruption, although they also have light inside" - said Cloud while shaking his head.

"Yes, but the most corrupt human, is still more terrifying than the worst demon" - replied Tio while remembering how much of the human people that her family had protected for years, had betrayed them during the attack - "At least you know that demons will betray you, on the other hand, humans can be kind until they stab you in the back"

"Ok, I have nothing to refute those words" - Cloud said as he shrugged his shoulders and watched as Shea and the two human girls walked in their direction - "Anyway, I think it's time to continue with our journey"
