Chapter 577 [Orcus - XI]

"I still think there's something we're ignoring" - Cloud muttered as he frowned.

The duo had been in the background of [Orcus] for over a month, reviewing and practicing the new magic they had obtained, the "Ancient Magic", [Creation Magic], a much better and more functional version than the ability to imbue mana into objects that Yue had used before, in fact, the difference was like heaven and earth.

Yue had started practicing this magic when she read about the traitors because they were similar to her in certain ways, and though she had tried her best, her ability was barely functional, and she hadn't told Cloud that, though now that he possessed this ability, she understood how far Yue was from the original product.

"What's so weird about it?" - Yue asked, who was wearing only a long, almost transparent polo shirt.

Cloud gave her a glance before he felt his eyebrow twitch, after all, she had been trying to seduce him for the past three weeks, and honestly, it was hard to resist the girl, not because she was extremely beautiful, but because his instinct to procreate being the only one of his race, was extremely high.

Yue was in a similar situation, and in addition to this, the girl was head over heels in love thanks to two factors, the suspension bridge effect, and because Cloud was the first person to treat her normally, outside of her uncle.

"The magical aura of that skeleton that is supposedly Oscar Orcus, is nothing like the magical aura of the sphere that gave us our [Creation Magic]!" - Cloud replied with a frown.

"Now that you mention it" - Yue muttered neutrally while looking at the skeleton.

Cloud slowly searched the place they had used to live for these past few weeks, trying to find some secret compartment, or some document that would explain their concerns, but they only found information about the identity of the creator, and their target, as well as the truth about Ehit, and his companions, the other traitors.

"I guess Ehit destroyed my race to prevent another liberator from being born" - Yue muttered as she frowned because the last thing she remembered, it was the holy inquisition that had instigated the war her race was about to go through.

If it wasn't for Cloud deciding to investigate everything in greater detail, she would have ignored a lot of things to try to enjoy her life as a married woman.

Cloud had not only managed to find a piece of history lost in time, but also more evidence to prove that the "liberators", were the good guys in the story.

"I need some time to think" - Yue muttered because she felt that her uncle's betrayal, was not as simple as she thought now that she knew a little more about the context of the overall situation.

Cloud watched as the girl retreated silently while shaking her head.

From Yue's expression, he could tell that her whole reality seemed to have taken a new turn, all the hatred and suffering she had gone through because of her uncle, seemed to be a way to be able to protect her, but at the same time, there was no way to tell if this was all a coincidence, or not.

Yue had to come up with her own answer, or at least a delusion in order to continue moving forward.

Cloud quickly shook his head and continued reading everything he had, until after picking up a book, a strange hatch appeared next to what appeared to be a ring.

The blond quickly grabbed it and felt everything distort around him.

When he was only just able to regain consciousness, he noticed how he was in what appeared to be a strange white room with a strange female looking man.

"I see that finally someone managed to complete my test" - said the man with black hair, glasses and suit - "And it's interesting to see that you're not fully human, how did you manage to become a hybrid?"

Cloud didn't answer, he just looked at the man in front of him with a frown because he could feel how his aura was similar to much of the things that were in his current home base - "You're Oscar Orcus, right?"

The man smiled at these words before nodding - "Indeed, my name is Oscar Orcus, the creator of this maze, and one of the [Liberators], it is a pleasure to meet you, person who has passed my test."

Cloud was again at a loss for a word because he didn't know what exactly to say.

"Anyway, I think we'd better get straight to the point" - Oscar said as he narrowed his eyes - "I'm sure you have a lot of questions after reading my notes and listening to my pre-recorded message, but we can leave that for another time because there are much more important matters."

Cloud raised an eyebrow as he listened to the man's words.

"First of all, I have to say that we, the [Liberators], are not dead, or at least not completely" - said Oscar, making the blond surprised because he didn't expect this answer - "I know, it's surprising news, but if I'm honest, our current state is practically being dead".

"That sentence is a bit strange" - Cloud replied with a frown.

"I know, we're not dead, but at the same time, we can't consider ourselves alive, at least not all of us" - replied Oscar while closing his eyes - "In my case, my soul was sealed in the core of this labyrinth while my body ended up in the room you possibly saw before you got my magic."

"I understand, that's why that skeleton didn't have your aura" - Cloud muttered in surprise.

"Exactly, that leaves me in a state where I'm not dead, but at the same time I am" - sighed Oscar before shaking his head - "Anyway, what I'm trying to say, is that at least three or us are still "alive", I couldn't tell you who we are, but discounting me, and Belta, the options are drastically reduced, and if I had to bet on one, I'd say that one of the survivors would be Meiru because of his race"

Cloud tried to ask more questions on the subject, but was cut off by Oscar - "I know my words only cause you more questions, but I don't have much time. By completing this maze, the central core is going to start conserving as much energy as possible in order to maintain the inheritance system of my magic, that means my existence will soon disappear, or it will be used as 'fuel' to maintain the important functions of my maze"

"Don't you feel bad about this?" - Cloud asked with a frown.

"In the least, I have lived more than long enough, and all these years have helped me to be able to understand many things, among them, theories that I had not been able to understand during my youth" - answered Oscar honestly - "One of the few advantages of my current situation"

Cloud remained silent because if he were the one about to die, he would do everything he could to try to survive - "I guess we are different."

"It's possible, although it's not like I have something that ties me to this world" - Oscar answered while closing his eyes - "Our defeat against Ehit, should have been our death, so having all these years to be able to think things through better and complete my projects, have made me see that I have nothing more to worry about, except for the state of my companions, that's why I want to ask you for a favor"

"With this one that would be two" - Cloud replied as he gave a blank look to the black haired man, after all, his illusory image, he had asked them to complete the other mazes in order to get the ability to be able to stop Ehit and his madness.

"I know I'm asking too much, but the favor my projection told you, is more of a mission that comes out of my sense of duty, but this mission I'm about to ask you, comes from the bottom of my heart" - Oscar answered honestly - "I want you to complete the labyrinths and see if you can rescue my companions, or at least those who are still alive."

Cloud was not surprised at this request because he could see it coming after all the explanation Oscar had given him.

"Oh, I think my time is up, the ring I used as a medium can't support our connection anymore, and it's about to be destroyed" - Oscar muttered regretfully - "Anyway, the decision is yours."

Cloud didn't say anything else, he just watched as everything around him started to glow again.

When he opened his eyes, he noticed how he had returned to the labyrinth library and the ring he had taken, was completely broken.

"If we're going to get their abilities, I could at least help you with that small favor, not to mention that more help could make my mission easier" - Cloud muttered as he looked at the broken ring calmly - "The original users of these ancestral magics, they're something I can't ignore"

Cloud quickly shook his head and continued with his reading, only this time he also took Oscar's personal journals so he could find more information about his companions.
