Chapter 649 ( Melusine Underwater Ruins - V )

"So, this is our first obstacle?" - Shizuku asked while raising an eyebrow - "It doesn't seem like a big deal, at least not compared to the big volcano."

"I feel like this thing isn't as simple as we thought" - replied Cloud while squinting his eyes.

The group arrived at a huge circular room that honestly looked as if something was going to happen here, though leaving aside, the group had reached the exit of the room, though there was one problem, and that was that the exit was being blocked by some sort of jelly.

"Shall I hit it?" - Shea asked as she raised her huge hammer.

"Wait, this thing is too weird," said Kaori as she frowned, "Think about it, that thing is the only obstacle in this whole room, besides, I don't think you should trust yourself after that strange thing that haunted the oasis."

"Do you think this thing is alive?" - Cloud asked as he raised an eyebrow.

"I'm not sure, but it's a possibility" - answered Kaori while giving a blank look to those present - "I wouldn't even be surprised if behind this thing there's a monster controlling it, I mean, we entered this place and we were hit by an attack of concentrated water that could kill anyone if they weren't paying attention or had sharp senses."

"She has a point," Yue said as she nodded, "First let's try if we can use magic to get rid of that thing, and if we can't, then we'll use plan B."

"Plan B?" - Shea asked as she cocked her head to one side.

"Yeah, we'll let Cloud take it out with his explosive weapons" - replied Yue with a small smile adorning her face.

"Sounds like a plan" - nodded Shizuku as she watched Shea lower her giant hammer with a disappointed expression.

"Let's see how it all turns out first, if nothing bad happens, you'll be able to use your hammer" - said Cloud as he walked over to Shea and stroked her hair.

The girl pricked up her ears as a happy smile appeared on her face.

"Somehow I feel like Shea's acting like she's his pet" - Tio said quietly, though if she was honest, she was a little jealous. Why wasn't she Cloud's pet?

"That aside, we'd better concentrate on this thing" - Yue said as she cast a powerful fire spell, only to watch as it seemed to dissolve on contact with the strange multicoloured jelly - ". . ."

"Wait a second" - said Tio as she walked over to the jelly and touched it carefully, only to let out a small cry of pain as he saw his hand being consumed by a potent acid - "I knew it..."

Kaori quickly ran to Tio and healed her hand immediately.

"That stuff is fucking corrosive," Cloud said as he walked past Shea, who was beginning to feel a huge sense of relief that he hadn't attacked earlier. If he had, she would have gotten at least some of that weird acidic jelly and could have consumed it without a trace.

"This stuff is so acidic that it can disintegrate magic, though that doesn't mean it's not effective" - Yue said as she noticed how the strange jelly wall seemed to have shrunk slightly - "This makes me think of two things, one, this stuff disintegrated the whole spell, but ended up consuming part of her form, or two, this stuff could only melt a part of the spell and the rest destroyed part of her body."

"Both options come to the same end, but the first one is more dangerous" - said Tio as she looked at her hand and noticed how it was a little red even though it had been healed - "The ability to melt magic, it's a horrifying and extremely dangerous ability"

Cloud frowned, though his expression changed as he felt the room begin to shake - "I think that was the signal for whoever was responsible for that thing to show up."

The girls stood on guard as they watched the strange multicoloured jelly, not noticing how behind them, a strange goo began to ooze from a crack in the floor.

Cloud quickly sensed something strange and looked over to the girls, only to notice the strange sight - "Behind you!"

The girls' eyes widened in surprise before they ran to the blond, not even looking back because they knew that every minute counted. That had been the best decision they could have made because the moment they took their first steps, the strange goo began to take the shape of a strange slug-like creature.

"A giant sea angel?" - Shizuku asked seriously as she looked at the strange slimy creature that seemed to be made of the same strange jelly that covered the exit.

"Be careful, that thing is releasing that weird corrosive jelly! Kaori, create a barrier while I use my magic to give you enough time to lift it!" - Cloud exclaimed as he noticed how from the body of the strange flying slug, a goo began to splatter everywhere - "[Spatial Shift]!"

"Hai!" - Kaori exclaimed as she began to recite a short incantation - "[Divine Interruption]!"

The strange goo continued to splatter everywhere as Cloud used his magic to redirect it elsewhere. Kaori didn't take too long to raise her barrier as the others prepared to attack.

"Cloud, I think this is a good time for you to let us do something too," Yue said as she looked at her husband, "We just need to look for his magic stone and we'll be done with this, which shouldn't be too hard seeing as that thing is transparent."

The magic stone, the core that all demonic beasts possess within them, as well as the source of energy that keeps them alive.

Cloud hadn't thought of them before because if he was honest, it was much easier to eliminate the monster quickly and enjoy the results of a good hunt.

"It looks like the weak beasts were only serving as food for this thing," Cloud said as he deactivated his magic now that they were covered by Kaori's barrier, "Now the question is, where is that thing's magic stone?"

Cloud continued to stare at the strange floating sea angel before frowning as he detected no source of magic in that thing - "Am I wrong and that thing isn't a demonic beast?"

The gelatinous beast began to release a powerful red aura.

Tio frowned as she felt the aura radiating from this strange monster seem to be resonating with the room, which was not good, after all, it meant one of two things.

One, they were inside a monster and this strange creature was part of the beast's digestive system, or two, this strange creature had turned its core into another kind of object and spread it throughout the cave they were in.

Yue slowly stepped out of the barrier as she began to draw a glyph with mana, which meant that she was preparing a high-level magic, or at least an experimental magic.

"[Muspelheim]!" - Yue exclaimed as she finished drawing her astral glyph, only for after a few seconds, everything around them began to burn as if they were inside a fiery land.

Cloud was surprised to see the powerful fire attack, more so when he noticed the huge amount of mana Yue needed to cast it.

The strange slug began to move erratically as it let out cries of pain.

"As I thought, all that gelatinous mass is your core" - Yue said as she started sweating because it was her first time casting this spell, which was a much more advanced application of his [Inferno] magic.

"I think I'll give you a hand" - said Tio while smiling slightly - "[Azure Blaze]!"

The huge slug began to roar in pain as blue and white flames began to mix with the powerful infernal flames of Yue's attack.

The strange creature could feel its body slowly evaporating as it tried to attack its prey, though there was a problem with its plan, and that was that the closer it tried to get, the more damage it received.

"This place is just as hot, if not hotter, than the volcano" - Shea said as she felt sweat start to break out on her forehead.

"This is a good experience, it's not every day you get to see high level magic" - Kaori replied as her eyes sparkled because if she learned from her companions, she too could become a monster capable of casting [Sanctus] magics as if they were [Holy Light] magics, or she could even manage to cast [Miracle] magic.

The possibilities were endless now that she was entering the mazes with Cloud and the others, for here she could awaken her full potential, and even more.

Cloud nodded in appreciation as he saw Yue and Tio's offensive power, not counting that this was not their full potential, after all, they too were being restricted by the laws of the world.

"By the way, hadn't you said that you couldn't use high level elemental magic?" - Shea asked as she looked at Tio.

"Oh, no, I didn't mean that I couldn't throw them, but that my offensive power and affinity with these is far less than that of a tribesman of said element" - Tio answered honestly.
