  Her small frame trembled against me for only a few moments before she calmed down and let out a happy little sigh. So she had a wolf and not a dragon? Magnus would not be happy.

  Would it be enough to force him to cancel the force of a wedding?

  "Karina," I had to stop doing that. I had no right to call her name, I was nothing but a servant. One that was supposed to devote every bit of themselves to their master.

  And my master was Magnus.

  "Please, don't let go," Karina whispered into my ear. "Just, a minute more. I feel safe here."

  Safe? This wasn't even close to safety. Still, how could I tear her heart out? There would be plenty of that in a matter of hours. "Mistress, this isn't proper. If the Master sees this..."

  She ignored my words, burying her nose in my chest. I sighed, having no other choice but to hold her close. Her fingertips brushed against the mangled remnants of my back. I didn't let her see my wince.
