Chapter 19

A screeching sound of alarms alerted them. It is no ordinary warning. As they opened their eyes, no light is visible.

“What’s happening?” one of the teams asked calmly, though the voice was obviously trembling.

  “We don’t know.”

“Should we wait for the roll call, or are we supposed to be heading out now?” that voice asked again.

“Come on, guys. I am still sleepy. Can you please just hush down?” Epharil lazily stopped them.

The room became silent when the building’s alarm warned again. That’s the second one, Eve counted. Moments later, the automated door opened, and the silent corridor welcomed them. It is a different kind of silence.

“Shh. Keep quiet! KEEP QUIET!” Epharil threatening whispered.

She can hear the others’ breathing heavily. Someone even gulped, that made Epharil hush them once more.

“Get up now, slowly. Don’t you ever make unnecessary sounds. Put on your suits and walk here beside me,” she instructed in a low tone as possible.
