"Go ahead," Phoenix said.
"I want to work for Cannonwell Design, and you must promise to keep your hands off the company."
I wanted to keep Matteo's company safe.
"Okay, I promise." Phoenix nodded.
I didn't feel assured. "Mr. Waller, I hope you can keep your word. Please don't repeat your actions of making your promise but sabotaging Cannonwell Design behind my back."
His face darkened. "I never broke my promise. I never did anything to Cannonwell Design after that."
"You know very well whether you did it or not."
I no longer trusted Phoenix.
But I still had to believe him.
The next day, I returned to Cannonwell Design.
Matteo welcomed me with open arms, but not the others.
When I returned to my desk from Matteo's office, a dead rat was lying there.
The table was stained with blood.
In the past, I would have kept it to myself. Now, I wanted to make progress and help Matteo, not drag him down.
