CHAPTER FOUR: GREEN NUTS

"We need more sleep time" Cody complained as he ignored Alina's wake up call.

"Do you want a cold bucket of water to wake you up" Alina threatened him.

"That's if you can find one" Cody stood up smirking at her.

"You are unbelievable" Alina sighed "Keep making fun of our situation".

"Just kidding, don't get so annoyed" he said blowing her a kiss.

"Whatever, get your lazy ass up and get your stuff, we are moving" she said picking up her shotgun and cross it along her shoulder with it's brown strap.

"We've been walking for some days now and we haven't seen any creepers, do you find that weird?" Cody asked.

"That's true, but it's to our own advantage, as long as we don't run into anyone of them, our journey should be smooth" she replied him.

"Say, Alina where are we going?" Cody asked again.

Alina stopped in her tracks and looked at Cody with loving eyes.

"You remember what dad always tells us?" she asked "Everything in life just begins with a step, we might not have any destination presently but let's see where this leads Cody".

"Yeah, you are right" Cody smiled at her "As long as is just two of us".

Alina smiled back at him, she held his hands and they both moved forward into the destroyed street.

"It became dark quick" Alina said.

"That's because we've been walking non-stop, can we at least find a place to crash or do you want to put an all night?" Cody asked.

"Nah, I don't think so, we have to recharge our legs too" she replied "Lemme survey round this street and check maybe we can see a safe place, you just stay put here and call me if you need help"

"Like I would need your help, you might have your brawns but I have my brains" Cody bragged.

"Just call for me if you need help, nerd" Alina smirked at him "Emphasis on the nerd".

Alina used her sight to scan her surroundings, her eyes have already adapted to the darkness, so it was easier for her eyes to see clear in the darkest (she was born and raised underground). She moved swiftly in the dark, observing everywhere and everything, fast and precise. Everywhere looked okay which was very weird, it was normal to see about three or four creepers with their red eyes illuminating the night.

"Perhaps they hibernate" she said to herself.

After walking for sometime, she found a building that still looks like it can hold on, although it was destroyed and some of the parts of the building was burned blacked completely.

"I have to go in" she sighed as she held her shotgun in attack mode. The shotgun entered into the building first before she followed, her dark blue eyes roved round the interior of the building inspecting every corner of it.

The first rule of dealing with a creeper is to be very silent in an abandoned place like this, if no noise is made, you can get the sounds of the creepers talons creeping against the wall.

The building appears to be a small pub, going around the small interior, Alina found a small hatch, she opened it and a very decaying smell hit her nose.

"What the hell" she squirmed as she retched. She looked inside the hatch and saw bones, the structure of the bones looked like that of a human.

"Eugh" Alina removed her blue jacket and used it to pick the bones, she tossed it aside.

"Looks like we've seen where we will sleep" she sighed.

It took her and Cody about fifteen minutes to settle into their sleeping place.

"What did you think happened to him" Cody asked pointing to the bone.

"Him?"

"The male bone are longer than the female bone" Cody said "Judging by the length of the bone it is a male's own".

"Nerd" Alina smiled slapping Cody's head "Well he doesn't look like he was attacked by a creeper, his bones were like very intact when I got here, so maybe exhaustion, hunger, thirst, suicide I think. Or perhaps he gave up on life".

"Dark and Gothic is you" Cody exhaled as he made himself home in his spot. "Goodnight Alina".

"Yeah, Cody" she replied "Good night".

As beautiful as dreams are they must always be cut short.

"Alina!" Cody screamed.

Alina jumped up grasping her shotgun, she looked at Cody's spot but he wasn't there instead he was in a corner struggling with a creeper.

"What the hell" Alina gasped, she moved swiftly towards the creeper as she ready her shotgun. The creeper got a whiff of her approaching, it swung its scaly long tail at her, Alina quick reflexes made her dodge it as she moved to the other side, Alina maneuvered around the creeper professionally as she pointed the muzzle of the shotgun to the creepers head.

"Bang" she smirked as she pulled the trigger, blasting the creeper's green brain onto Cody's shirt.

"Ugh" Cody retched in disgust.

"Let's move, we've been compromised, where there is one creeper more are to follow, they don't just move alone" Alina said reloading the shotgun.

"Am still trumatized, give me a minute" Cody said.

"We have no minute to spear" Alina said grabbing his hands "we have to move now, if you haven't noticed it's already daylight".

"Shit, you are right" Cody said.

They rushed outside the building into the early sunlight, the morning smelt weird, there was a thick smell around the air. It smelled weird like dead bodies were dumped in the street.

"Alina, did you notice this" Cody said pointing to the building they just came out of. The building had a large painting of blue bird.

"What the hell, how did I not notice that" Alina looked confused. "Am sure I noticed everywhere of this building".

"Not everywhere" Cody smirked. "Looks like..."

"Cody wait, the bones we found inside, it looked fresh right" Alina interrupted him.

"Now that you say it, a blue bird painting, fresh bones, island of hope and Dad" Cody said with his eyes open wide "Didn't the people back at the Subway talk about large blue birds flying in the sky".

"Dad said they are from the island of hope, no one ever believed him" Alina said.

"But what does it mean, all these just don't make any sense to me, I mean the fresh bones that's one, the hatch that's two.." Cody said.

"Hold it Sherlock, think about it on the way, we've got to move like right now" Alina snapped him out of his thinking "Remember, creepers".

"Yeah true, but don't you want to know the truth" Cody wailed at her.

"Look Cody choose one truth or death" Alina said.

"I thought it's truth or dare" Cody joked.

"Hmm wise man, get the move on it" Alina smacked his head.

It took Alina five minutes to figure out what was going on, they were being watched.

"Cody, when I say run, you move as fast as you've ever have" Alina said going into offense mode "Don't ask me any questions".

The six creepers that have been tailing them realized that their prey knew what was after them, they came out of their shadows and began their attack.

"Run now" Alina urged Cody to hotfoot it. The creepers behind them jump into sight and they made their nasty screech that made the hair on Alina and Cody to stand up.

"Cody, go on ahead, I'll try to slow them down" Alina shouted to Cody as she unstrapped her shotgun.

"No! We are in this together, I'll slow them down with one of my gadgets" Cody protested as he searched through his pack.

"Shit" Alina sweared as they approached a dead end that was filled with a broken down truck, car and other debris. The creepers behind them made a sound that sounded as if they were being made fun of.

"Found it!!!" Cody screamed as he brought out a spherical object that was filled with bolts and nuts, on top was a button which Cody pressed and threw to the creepers. It landed with a hard clink but in the first few seconds nothing happened until the sphere exploded green, blasting and mutilating two of the creepers.

"Yes, Green nuts worked!!" Cody squealed in joy.

"Green nuts?!" Alina questioned as she turned around and fired at the remaining creepers. As a sharp and lucky shooter she is, the shot instantly killed a creeper.

"Yes!!!" Alina squealed too as she reloaded her shotgun and fired again. "Cody take cover and help as you can".

Cody nod at her as he went to hide behind a large debris and began rummaging his pack.

Alina postured herself again for attack mode and began firing, she knew long range attack won't work because the creepers are fast enough to dodge the bullets and plus their skin are slippery, so only shot range attacks can work. Alina felt her machete poking her back, 'should I wait for them to come closer or should I continue firing' she contemplated.

Cody took another gadget from the pack, this time it looked cylindrical, he shook it and threw it at the creepers. As it landed on the ground it exploded firing metal shards, penetrating into the creepers.

"Nice one Cody" Alina praised Cody as she drew her machete from her back and rushed to the distracted creepers.

One was able to break out of its confusion but Alina swiftly stabbed it's head, piercing into the brain, it remained two more. Alina acrobatically moved towards one of the two remaining creeper, she pointed her shotgun towards its head, winking at it before firing it's brains out.

The last creeper now recoverd from Cody's attack jumped at Alina snarling and snapping its teeth at her, she used the shotgun to hold the creeper's teeth at bay but the strong, sharp teeth of the creeper broke the gun almost cutting of Alina's head if not of her quick reflexes as she moved out of harms way.

The creeper roared as it charged again, but Alina was faster as she used her machete to slice one of its eyes, it roared and swung his tail at Alina sending her flying as she smashed into a rusting car.

"Fuck" Alina squirmed in pain, she tried to support herself with the machete but the creeper rushed and used it's head to collide onto her, it raised it's teeth at her as Alina coughed blood out. As it was about to sink it's teeth into Alina's neck, a green blast penetrated into the head, it gurgled before it fell down dead.

"What the hell" Alina said as she tried to stand.

"It worked too!!!" Cody exclaimed as he rushed to assist her "I never knew it would work, if only it had one blast in it, my original green lighting".

"Thanks Cody, Alina smiled at him with bloodied lips "You saved my life".

"You always save my life" Cody said "This one of the moments I'll save yours, are you okay?".

"Cody" Alina smiled at him "Surprisingly, am alright".

"Good cause we have to start moving, am out of gadgets for now" Cody said.

"Even me, I only have a few rounds of bullets" Alina said. "But I still have my trusty machete".

"Let's just get going".

"Right" Alina smiled again at him.

But it was at that crucial moments they knew, they realized it, that they were surrounded, no means of escape. About twenty creepers laying in the shadows came out circling them, enclosing every means of escape from them.....
