Jasper
My princess slept, brows furrowed as she whimpered in her sleep. Wrapping my hand around hers, she squeezed me and cuddled against my side. I'd almost lost her. This one bright spot I'd waited for, had almost been torn away from me. And I would not just let the Council get away with this. My father would be on my side, I had no doubts about that. But the rest of the royals might not be so keen on taking on the entire Council.
She cried and my insides froze as her tears trailed down her cheeks. "Cai," she sobbed.
Everything around me turned dark. What? Taking a step closer to her, I stroked her cheek with the back of my hand. Why did she call out for the dragon? They barely knew each other, and yet. Yet, something was there. Something I couldn't explain, but there was no way I could allow whatever it was to continue. When all of this was taken care of, I'd separate the two of them for good.
