Unknown species

It was getting late in the evening and the summer sun was beginning to set. When they walked out of pharmacy a crisp wind blew across the city street, both of the girls shivered from the unexpected cool air. Alex wrapped his arm around Lexi ushering her across the street and Jackson scooped karmen up in his arms, she hid her red face on his shoulder mumbling.

"Please put me down, people are watching"

"I really don't care Babe, I can walk faster than you, and we need to get you out of this knight air."

When Alex and Lexi slipped inside the car to see Jackson and Karmen were already waiting for them. Jackson had pulled her into his lap and wrapped the small blanket around her legs. Alex pulled Lexi close to him and found her blanket in the seat ,wrapping it around her shoulders.

Lexi shivered pulling her blanket underneath her chin complaining as she snuggled against Alex's chest.

" What's the temperature out there, I wasn't expecting it to get this cold."

Alex checked the weather on his phone and realized the problem right away.

" sweetheart, it's just about the same temperature it was when we left, I believe your cold because your body had adjusted to the milder temperatures at the beach."

He reached over adjusting the temperature inside the car ,after the girls warmed up they started chatting about the appointment karmen had made them with Dr. Burnhart.

" Karmen, what day did you make that appointment ? I need to put it in my phone so that I won't forget about it."

" It's not really an appointment yet, I just set up a virtual appointment with Dr. Burnheart's Physicians Assistant. She will call us tomorrow and take down all our information and schedule the appointment herself. But, I'm sure we will get in right away." Karmen explained to her.

Lexi has been pampered and spoiled all her life King Charles and Queen Victoria done everything for her. The only time she ever left the Castle with out them was when she was working on a fundraiser and occasionally if she took a trip with Karmen and Ethan.

She really don't understand how life outside the castle works.

" what makes you so sure of that." She ask Karmen curiously

" Lexi you really don't know much do you?

Have you not ever heard the expression money talks? If you look on the bottom of Dr.Burnheart's research Journal it list his sponsors, his top three sponsors are Alex, and our fathers."

Lexi has truly never heard that expression before. That is one of the reason everyone viewed her as the People's Princess. Even though she was pampered and spoiled , King Charles made sure everyone treated her like a normal child .

Alex seen the confused look on her face and reassured her what Karmen said was true.

" Sweetheart I'm sure Dr. Burnheart will be happy to see you on Saturday."

Looking stressed , she nibbled on her thumb and stammered her words a little bit.

Uh...Uh Wh..what will the Physician Assistant ask us tomorrow?" She finely managed to say.

Karmen just now realized how sheltered Lexi has been all her life. She laid her head down on Jackson's chest and waved her hand in the air, like it was no big deal. Verbally listening some of the information the Physician Assistant will ask them tomorrow.

"Just a bunch of general information, like your name and your birthday, your medical history, a few questions about your families medical history, and since were establishing for a future pregnancy, he will probably ask a few questions about Alex and his medical history."

Her eyes widened and she excitedly blurted out.

" But ... But I don't know anything about Alex's medical history."

" Sweetheart don't worry I will be right there to help you. I'm a pure blood , I've never been sick and never seen a doctor before."

Alex rubbed her arm gently to calm her down. And soon her heart beat went back to normal. She leaned her head on his chest soaking up his comforting embrace.The big limousine came to a stop, the driver came around to open the door. Alex grabbed her shopping bag with all the things in it she had bought at the drug store .

He took her hand helping her out of the car. Jackson patted Karmen's leg slightly teasing her .

" Get your boney ass up, let's go inside."

On the way inside the castle Alex turned his head to look over his shoulder, shouting back at the younger couple who were lingering behind.

" The two of you come to my office and I will print my schedule out. You can work on it tomorrow."

As they strolled through the Castle their shoes clicked on the marble floors echoing through the empty dimly lit hallway. After being in the small beach house, the huge castle felt intimidating and eerie to Lexi .She gripped Alex's arm tightly and her heart raced slightly, Alex turned his gaze her way , wrapping his arm around her waist pulling her closer to him.

" What's wrong sweetheart?" He ask

She clung to his arm, her eyes roamed walls and down the dark hallway. When she spoke her voice echoed back causing her to flinch.

"It's dark and scary in here."

He paused his steps and snapped his fingers, the whole castle lit up .The shining marble floors gleamed and the dark wooden furniture became warm and inviting. Alex kissed the top of her head and ask

"Is that better sweetheart."

" yes, thank you."

" sweetheart you grew up in a castle didn't you ever roam around at night?"

"Yes, but my dad always kept all the lights on."

"Darling I think your dad spoiled you."

They stopped in front of his office door waiting for Karmen and Jackson to catch up . She pecked his lips smiling sweetly, telling him nothing but the truth.

" no more than you do "

He couldn't deny what she said ,because it was the truth, he loved to spoiled her. He nodded his head in agreement, reaching up to punch in the security code. He looked behind them to see Karmen and Jackson coming up the hallway.

He pushed the door open to find a large pile of mail in front of it.

"Let me get all this mail up sweetheart."

Bending over he gathered the mail for them to step inside. He walked over behind his desk setting in the big leather chair, he patted his leg telling her

" set over here sweetheart, Karmen and Jackson will be coming in soon."

She made herself comfortable in his lap as he looked through the big pile of mail in front of him. Karmen and Jackson stepped inside ,Jackson set in the chair in front of the desk and pulled karmen down on the chair arm.

" Alex I might have a couple of packages in that stack"

He pointed to two small brown packages with no senders name just a return address on them.

"That's probably them. "He said

Alex chuckled, " you should have had those sent to your house, you know everything sent to the Castle goes through X-ray ."

Jackson chuckled " I would have liked to seen Miss Betty's eyes when she passed those through."

Their conversation made the two girls curious about the packages on the deck.

" just what's in that package?" Karmen nervously ask hoping it wasn't going to explode or anything.

" Babe do you remember when I ask you if we could play in the bedroom a little bit?"

She creased her brows and nodded her head.

" Babe, those packages have fun stuff in them."

Lexi blurted out

" What is it I might want some too."

Alex pushed the packages over to Karmen letting her decide what to do.

" ok , Lexi just remember I don't even know what's in the box.

She ripped open the small packages, and quickly closed it back, gripping at Jackson

" you had this sent through X-Ray, oh my lord Jackson. What the hell is wrong with you."

His laidback attitude shined threw as bright as the morning sunrise. He calmly rubbed her back , amused by her reaction.

" it's okay Babe, Miss Betty is the only person who works in X-ray and she has seen far worse things."

Lexi continued to badger her for an answer

" just what is it."

" It's a personal massager, Lexi " was her discreet answer.

"Oh, I don't need one of those Alex has the best hands. He gives a great massage."

Lexi's comment had Alex and Jackson struggling to keep a straight face. Alex looked down at the pile of mail to hide the smirk that had formed on his lips . As he flipped through the big stack he ran across their DNA results.

He quickly passed the olive green envelopes out keeping his in his hand.

He ripped his open, to read the results.

reading the ethnicity region out loud comparing his to Karmen and Jackson's.

" Mine has a Ethnicity percentage of 99% coming from this region. And 1% from someplace unknown. What does yours say Karmen "

" Wow, this is totally weird, mine says I have 78% from a unknown region

1% southwestern Asia

21% from here

"Alex mine is almost the same as yours except I have 2%from an unknown region."

Karmen quickly flipped through the paperwork in her hand. Pulling out a different chart . She stared blankly at the paper in her hand. Her silence worried Jackson , he pinched her cheek and call out to her

"Babe , hay Babe ,what's wrong?"

She stammered tongue tied, trying to answer him.

" I'm...I. uh..,"

He reached up and removed the paper from her hand reading the top of it out loud.

"Chromosome species chart" then he ask her again.

"Babe what's wrong, what is this "

Breathing deeply trying to catch her breath still stammering and stuttering her words she did her best to answer his question.

Yo.., y.. you know I was telling you about that new test they give half blood babies when their born .To tell if their more human or vampire that's what this is.

I'm not half blood, I'm 45%human and 55% unknown species."

" Babe that's some kind of a mistake , Alex check yours."

He and Alex both flipped through the paperwork in their hand pulling out that same chart.

"Babe , look mine says I'm 6%unknown species, Alex what does yours say?"

Alex laughed historically,

"Mine says I'm 4% unknown species. Karmen we know for a fact we are 100% vampire .

Still worried she nibbled on her thumb nail, trying to make sense out what their DNA report said.

" Well I guess we are back to square one, you still don't know where your grandmother was from and I don't know where my birth parents came from. But what if I am a different species and your grandmother was too."

She picked up a pencil off of Alex's deck scribbling down a math formula ,

" look if your grandmother was a half blood from a different species the percentages would be right for the two of you."

Alex took the paper from her hand looking at the mathematical break down. He handed it over to Jackson to do the same. He couldn't brush off her theory, the science was backing her up.

" You have a good theory, but we don't know of any other species in existence."

" That's true, but a five hundred years ago vampires hid among humans. And humans thought they were mythical creatures."

"Babe, There is an old book in the library here in the Castle. It was my grandmother's she was really into literature and Art, this book is ancient it has stories about mythical creature in it. I thought it was crazy because it listed vampires as a mythical creature, we can take a look at it tomorrow.

It might give us some answers or maybe we all need to just take another DNA test."
