The next morning, Feng Li went to take Yu Xin to meet his brother.
Feng Ming should stay, resting, without any disturbance. There would be other occasions to have a normal meeting.
Yu Xin asked questions on the way, but Feng Li's heart wasn't calm, and his gaze turned serious, and a sense of threat, dark and bleak, could be felt, not far away. Yu Xin became worried. His forehead scrunched together and a dark, anxious light flashed across his eyes. He knew that even though Feng Li would tell him the truth if asked, his husband was a reserved person. But his inner doubts increased after seeing his reaction.
Feng Li reached the cave where Feng Ming was being treated. They came in, the smell of medicines in the air.
"Your Majesty.", the healer bowed and greeted him.
"How's Feng Ming doing? Will he have any sequelae?", Feng Li asked worriedly, and there wasn't any tension in his voice. His heart seemed to be loosened after seeing his brother.
"Master Feng Li has done a wonderful job. His health will be better and there will be no lasting impact from the injury. The bones that have healed, may need therapy, if Master allows."
"You are dismissed. You can rest.", Feng Li said while relaxing. He could tell they were speaking the truth and wouldn't hurt Feng Ming.
After the healer left, Yu Xin couldn't control his curiosity any longer and questioned him, "What happened, Feng Li?
"Yu Xin, his husband, Hei Lang, was killed before his eyes. After losing his loved one, it would be weird for him to not become mentally disturbed. He needs a good environment, which is why, you should go meet him first. Let him know he isn't alone."
Yu Xin inhaled.
He could only hope for Feng Ming to become better and not become depressed.
"I understand. Don't worry.", he spoke softly to ease his worries, while Feng Li smiled at him.
They went in together, Yu Xin trying hard to push himself to face him and ask what had happened.
Feng Ming, although seriously hurt, opened his eyes and sat up immediately when he heard the two enter.
Feng Ming greeted Yu Xin as a brother-in-law and welcomed him with open arms. Feng Ming wanted to comfort and share his suffering with Yu Xin. Since Yu Xin was kind and generous, and not arrogant at all, he felt calm and happy.
Both Feng Li and Feng Ming felt at ease and thought that their future wouldn't be worse, but their hope and confidence disappeared, heard the news from Feng Ming.
After hearing it, the feeling of happiness that Yu Xin and Feng Li had, suddenly vanished, and an uncertain, tragic expression surfaced.
Their breathing stopped, and their faces lost their luster.
Feng Ming did his best to slowly narrate.
His gaze was sullen and his eyes were slightly red because of tears and trauma. The room's cold, desolate atmosphere made them feel terrible.
However, what the two feared would happen and the fear that tormented them would come to fruition. Feng Ming took a long time, telling the story slowly, and finally ended.
In this world, not many sub-beasts can see the attack, and the probability of an assassination is extremely small. Moreover, the rabbit clan hadn't had a war in several years and it was peaceful. However, someone broke this tranquil silence, and an unimaginably dark and sinister plot was woven. This situation was unusual.
If Hei Lang really died, then he couldn't resurrect, nor would he return. Feng Li had faced a thousand battles. He couldn't care less if his death was meaningless but as for Feng Ming, he'd be even more unfortunate and unable to accept the loss.
Yu Xin and Feng Li couldn't keep themselves calm but because there was no one in the room and they needed to handle the matter carefully, they couldn't let their expressions change, or have the slightest shift, but rather kept their emotions under a facade.
Feng Li understood his brother's mindset, as Feng Li thought he'd be depressed because they didn't have parents. There were only his uncles and his family. Without Hei Lang, the reality, of how brutal, unjust, and harsh everything was, and how death was commonplace, wouldn't affect Feng Li. But with one's only lover missing and dead, his brother was very disturbed. His previous memories of other worlds came into his mind and they weren't a match. When people love someone, their feelings towards that person would grow and become stronger.
For some reason, Feng Li looked towards Yu Xin, with an impure glint in his eyes.
The latter was pale. Yu Xin bit his lip hard because he felt frightened to meet his brother-in-law and, the bad thing was, the place they were in was suitable to give birth to various ideas.
Feng Li hugged Yu Xin, whose knees had weakened, and pulled him close, embracing him tightly, while reassuring him.
Yu Xin tried not to scream because he was too stimulated and was being embraced. After enduring a while, his whole body had been hugged.
When Yu Xin, whose anger hadn't gone away, suddenly softened his gaze after he saw Feng Li's loving and distressed stare, and felt that his strength was waning, his spirit could no longer resist and fainted.
Feng Li reached out to support and hold him.
Feng Li froze for a second.
'Can a living thing suddenly disappear?'
'Is this also the work of the mysterious being?'
'To think someone was following my back, will he do something to me in the near future?'
While carrying Yu Xin, his jaw clenched, his face somber.
There was no sound to disturb the environment or atmosphere, the whole room was silent.
"Brother, is everything all right?", asked Feng Ming anxiously.
Feng Li blinked to wake him from his thoughts, and gave a reassuring smile, while Feng Ming believed what Feng Li had told him.
After a momentary thought, he realized his brother didn't know, but if Feng Li revealed the secret, Feng Ming would go mad and make a fuss. He was fragile in the face of loss and there was no point in saying anything.
The wounds from the trauma still haven't closed, and until then, Feng Li wouldn't make such a move and keep quiet about the situation.
"Rest. Your health has to come first. I'll go and bring some things, and you stay and relax, Brother.", replied Feng Li.
After he left the cave, he approached Xu, one of his most trusted sub-beasts.
"Your Majesty, what shall we do? We need to solve this as soon as possible.", said a serious, grave-faced beast, worried and scared at the same time.
Feng Li replied with a low, indistinguishable tone,
"Yes. You'll take all the healers here and thoroughly check them because these healers are responsible for healing the injured and dying. It will become difficult to defend if someone intends to cause harm. Even if no one dies, they'll become disabled."
Xu quickly replied, "That's true. These kinds of people have skills and cannot be neglected."
Feng Li said, "Start the investigation, as soon as possible. You know who it is."
The beast that heard his order became speechless. His eyes widened.
"Take a group of men, start a full investigation, and find the one I ordered.", Feng Li issued the order.
He looked towards Xu, with a deadly sharp and imposing look, so that he wouldn't refuse the order.
Xu stood alert and aware.
"Yes, sir.", Xu obeyed and left.
He walked with an agile and nimble movement, like a rabbit running through a meadow and reached a camp.
"Good. That's exactly what needs to be done."
"Let's put things into action and check to see which beast or sub-beast wants to disturb the snake clan's peace. That was my first order of the day. Good job. If there's a problem, I'll do my duty and catch you in the blink of an eye. Are there any questions?"
Xu stated his next step of action.
The others answered and bowed.
They proceeded with caution and slowly and stealthily searched and began their task.
This was a beast clan, where it had little or no information or knowledge, and no technology. Therefore, this work couldn't be completed without an elaborate plan.
To prevent any delays, one must also carry out his work in secrecy, which had to be completed soon and well.
After giving a set of orders and tasks, Xu hurriedly departed, returning to where Feng Li had been.
On the way, Xu had been thinking.
