Alora and Sarah looked at Maya after realizing that unknowingly they just ended up digging a recent scar on Maya.
"Seems like my boyfriend wasn't crazily in love with me. I wasn't as desirable to him as I thought I was," a lonely tear left Maya's left eye.
Alora and Sarah hugged Maya.
"He doesn't deserve you and it's not your problem. We will find someone worthy of your expensive love."
"Don't upset yourself over thinking of someone as selfish as him."
Only if they knew.
"My heart refuses to accept that he cheated on me. He promised to cherish me forever. He said that he will love me till the end. He will be there for me as long as I needed him. He was the one who made me daydream. He was the one who made me feel like a queen," a sob left Maya's mouth.
" Yet, he was the same person who made me feel worthless. Like I mean nothing. I started questioning my existence cause of him. The warm eyes I could look at all day and find my home in looked so foreign to me that day."
Maya sat up and looked blankly at the wall before her.
"I can curse him, fight him, I can hate him but unlove him? Not want him? How? How can I hate him when he's the one who taught me what love means? "
"I loved him too much to forget him, to move on from him. I can never love someone else like the way I loved him. Hell, like the way I love him."
Maya's broken words broke Alora and Sarah's hearts.
"I will wait for him till the end. No matter how bad he is to everyone, he's my world. Love seems like a forbidden word unless it's for him."
Maya closed her eyes and a smile broke off her lips as if re-living their memories together.
"He always used to say that if he could then he would have hidden me away from the whole world. He used to say that- that the fear that something might happen to me is enough to fill up his nights with nightmares."
"Why did he promise everything if he's going to break all his promises before I break? Why did he make me daydream so much that now the fear of closing my eyes is like a nightmare itself? "
Suddenly Maya smiled, a genuine one and her hands went to caress her non-existent baby bump.
"But I am glad that at least I have a part of him with me. Baby, I don't know what you are going to look like when you grow up. I don't know what's going to be your favorite color. I don't know how tall you are going to be. I don't know what would be your like and dislike. I don't even know what your gender is going to be but one thing is for sure, momma loves you. You are the most precious one to your momma. Even more than your papa."
Maya's misery bought tears to Alora and Sarah's eyes.
They again hugged her.
"Adopt me. I want to call you momma," Sarah said with a chuckle which turned into a sob.
Alora also cried with them.
"Enough with this now. Our current goal is to find out about your crush," Maya said wiping off her tears and putting on a smile on her face, which look genuine to Alora and Sarah.
They both knew that Maya was putting on a brave mask to fool them. They knew that she didn't want to look vulnerable any longer.
They decided to play along.
"What's his name by the way?" Alora said with a teasing look.
"I don't know. Each time I met him the only thing exchanged between us was our angry and sarcastic words," Sarah said with a disappointed look.
"You don't even know his name. Girl, are you kidding with us now?" Maya looked shocked.
"Believe me, I wish that I was kidding with you guys. I wish that I had everything figured out about him. But sadly it's the truth."
"By the way, how many times did you meet?" Alora asked getting up.
"Two times. Today was the second time."
"And first?" Alora said sipping on her coffee that she left on the table before.
"The day Maya broke Anna's nose," Sarah's words made Alora almost spit out her coffee but thankfully, she didn't.
"You got a crush on a guy on your way to save your bestie's a*s from trouble?"
"The cab driver was him. You just left in hurry. Hence, you didn't notice his face."
Flashback:
As soon as they got off the cab, Alora ran toward them. Sarah was about to do the same but the cab driver started shouting," Hey, my money."
Sarah cursed under her breath and took 50 dollars out of her purse.
"Here take it," she quickly gave the money to the cab driver's hand.
"Wait, take your change," the cab driver again shouted.
Sarah again cursed under her breath and hissed," take the change and pray that I and my friend end up winning this fight."
She was about to run away again when the cab driver quickly got down off the cab and gasped her hands.
"I can't do it, miss. I don't charge more than I deserve. Here keep your change and go win the fight," saying this the driver left after pushing money in Sarah's hand.
Flashback ends
"Is that so? Our little Sarah seemed to have a love at first sight," Alora and Maya started teasing Sarah.
"It's always attraction or lust at first sight. Never love at first sight. You fall in love with heart, and soul, not their body or face. It's not that deep. "
"Is that so?" The teasing glances didn't stop.
"Yes, it is what it is. Don't think too much. Hell, I don't even know his name."
"Had you known his name then you would be planning your baby's names now instead of getting teased by us," Alora said giving her a teasing glance.
The whole night they kept on talking. Each of them yawning still sleep was far away from their eyes.
That's what true friendship means. Teasing, fighting with each other yet fighting for each other when needed.
Living happy moments together yet sharing each other's pain like a birthright.
