Chapter 4

For the next two weeks that followed Chloe and Liam had created a system, a routine of sorts, and they stuck to this routine. Over time becoming closer to each other.

Today started off no different, they got up had breakfast and Liam got ready for school. Right on schedule the school bus stopped at the end of the driveway, and as usual Liam was rushing to get out the door, and it was Chloe's job to bark at the bus to tell Liam it was there. How did he manage before her, she had no idea.

"Bye girl, see you soon." He yelled at her, before slamming the door shut and running down the driveway, looking a complete mess.

However while the day may have started off the same, Chloe had other plans for the rest of the day, at least until Liam came home.

She walked around the house closing all the curtains and double checking the school bus was definitely gone, before preparing herself for what was to come. It had been a long time since she had done it last so she knew it was going to hurt, and hurt it did.

When the pain had left her body, Chloe stood up slowly, shivering, she quickly wrapped the blanket she had prepared around her body and rolled her eyes; human bodies were so fragile. She walked over to the full length mirror in the hallway and dropped the blanket.

She stood there for a while, examining her body which she hadn't seen in so long. Surprised to find she missed it as much as she did. Picking up the blanket again she headed to Liam's room and grabbed one of his oversized t-shirts, before putting it on. She saw his comb and used it to brush out her messy, overgrown hair, making sure not to collect every single hair that came off her head and drop them out the window . Her long brown hair almost reached her waist at this point, she huffed frustrated; long hair was such a pain.

After her appearance was somewhat acceptable she ran downstairs and flung open the fridge. She had been craving something other than dog food since the day she stepped in there. She ended up eating a: ham and cheese sandwich, yoghurt, banana and packet of crisps. She only hoped he wouldn't notice.

Full, she laid down on the sofa and drifted off to sleep.

The sound of the school bus pulling up, woke Chloe with a start. She pulled the t-shirt off and quickly turned back into a wolf, wincing at the pain that coursed through her body. With very little time she grabbed the t-shirt in her mouth and hid it under the sofa, using her nose to push it under. It wasn't the best but she was making do.

The door opened and Chloe was surprised to hear several voices talking at once. Liam was having friends over, why didn't she know?

She followed the sound of their voices to find 4 of them in the kitchen, all deep in conversation. When they saw her the room fell into silence.

"That's your dog?!" One guy asked

"Ya."

"That's no dog, that right there is a wolf." The same guy exclaimed. He had a shaven head and big muscly build. She knew not to judge a book by it's cover, but he didn't look like the type Liam would hang around with. None of them did.

"You scared Connor?" A short and stubby looking one yelled out.

"No, of course not" he scoffed, and almost to prove his point he approached her arm outstretched. She growled at him, and he jumped, taking a step backwards. She walked over to Liam and stood beside him, daring anyone to come close.

However, instead of being happy, Liam got angry at her. "No." She looked up at him confused. "No, bad girl." Her tail dropped. "Go, go on." She hung her head and walked over to her mat in the corner of the room, curling up.

Not long after the conversation picked back up and they all completely forgot she was there, Liam included. She lay there wallowing in self pity, listening into their conversation. Then someone said something that caught her attention.

"Ya thanks man for letting us move the party to your place, we'd be lost without you."

Then she got it. They were using him! She was so caught up with her thoughts she didn't even notice they're voices had started to get aggressive, until she saw a fist going flying out of the corner of her eye. She became instantly alert as she watched the two get into a full on brawl.

That was when Liam decided to go and be stupid, and try to break the two up. He proceeded to getting a fist in the face and within a second Chloe was there. Growling and barking at the two as she stood protectively in front of Liam, who currently stood clutching his nose. He definitely wasn't used to this.

All four of them faced Chloe, their fight forgotten as she herded them like sheep toward the front door, never stopping the growl that came from her. Soon their backs where pinned to the door and the person who started the brawl announced "Nah, I'm out." Flinging the door open all four of them scurried out, like the rodents they were, without a word of goodbye to Liam.

Liam just stood there, staring at the closed door, hand still to his nose.

"What the actual..."

Author's note:

Ooohhhh Chloe is starting to get protective of Liam.
