Verification

Alex smiled sadly. He was sad to see his companion go, but it seemed like she really didn't want to have to go through any identification procedures. He could understand that.

For the record, there are ways that people identify each other. One is just by knowing them. Their faces. But the authorities also had developed an identification system to show name and origin so that descendants could be identified easier. It came on a card that was distributed by each kingdom. Every ascender would have to register, but generally people got them when they were born. It didn't have anything like talent or stuff like that, it was just a way to make sure that whoever they were weren't a troublemaker.

This card also contained a drawn ID that would be used in case the person became a criminal. The drawing, which was recorded by the authorities, would be posted in case the person was wanted for a crime. The crime wouldn't be registered on the person's actual card, they just used the pictures to raise awareness.

Alex was marched to a cell that would hold him until the proper superiors were ready to meet him. The cuffs were to stay on, as a precaution and naturally his sword would be taken until further notice.

After about 30 minutes, a representative rushed down. She was a business woman, however she was designated to this job in a rush. Blanc wasn't prepared for an ascender to show up so they had rushed things. Incidentally, this was the first female Alex had come into contact with.

"Good day... Alex. My name is Pearl. I am your representative for the time being. I will verify your identity. After your identity has been verified, we will get you a card and a proper introduction to the rulers of our kingdom. We saw that you already received a wide range map, but we will also have other amenities open to you to use in order for you to get acquainted to your surroundings. After that, should you wish to stay here, you will need to have another talk with someone else, or you could leave and we will point you in the right direction. As an ascender, you have certain privileges."

Alex looked up, into Pearl's eyes.

"Good day to you as well. I want you to rest assured that I will cooperate and inform you of any decisions I might make."

Pearl was instantly attracted by Alex's eyes, though she did not remain entranced. She was a professional and Alex's eyes did not cause immediate obsession, as pointed out earlier.

Opening the door to Alex's cell, she took him directly to the church. As said, an oath was the preferred method of verification as people didn't like to call the authorities without proper suspicion. It wasn't that the authorities were haughty or rude, on the contrary they were highly respected for their work and strength, they just didn't want to waste anybody's time.

Alex approached the statue of a different goddess, one that was generally worshipped by humans. Ironically, she wasn't human, but an angel. Angels were seen as sacred creatures by most humans and worshipped by many. This was also the reason for human stigma against demons, as the angels and demons had a history of not getting along.

Unlike last time, no 'statue' took notice of him. It wasn't as if gods were watching through them 24/7, though some, like perhaps the kitsune, might like too.

After the oath, everyone gave a visible sign of relief. They didn't want to deal with a descendant and everybody there had a good impression of the young man. Especially Pearl.

After the verification, someone was called to draw his face, making sure to capture the most accurate representation. Alex didn't have a last name, so the name recorded was just Alex.

"Alright... I think you're ready. We'll make sure the proper authorities are alerted and we will let the royal family know that you are ready whenever they are."

Alex smiled politely. He didn't expect the royal family to be ready and waiting on him.
