Chapter 14

Audrey sees red as she is with Noah on the way home. It does not please her at all to see Alison hovering around her boyfriend, especially since in this case it only means one thing: she must certainly do everything possible to get Noah to start talking to Eliza again. If in normal times she should have had a fit of jealousy, the young lady decided not to do it this time, intending to do everything so that Noah would have even more resentment vis-à-vis his former friend.

- Alison was talking to you just now, right?

- Indeed, he nods simply, hoping that she won't give him a fit of jealousy.

- May I know what you were talking about?

- I don't think it concerns you, he replies curtly to the young lady's shock. I never asked you what you talk about with other guys as far as I know.

- I just want to make sure that she doesn't try to put a discord between us. Anyway, given the tone you're using with me right now, I have a feeling that's the case. Just for your information, did she tell you that Eliza came to talk to me this morning?

- Don't tell me you've argued again.

- I'm not going to hide that we had an altercation, but it didn't last long.

- What happened this time? he asks, starting to be exasperated by this story.

- Your friend informed me that she will soon take action to separate us. Seeing Alison speak to you and flee seeing me arrive, you can understand that I have some doubts about the subject of your conversation...

- Since you are convinced that Alison said something bad to me about you, I'll tell you what we were talking about. She wanted to know why I walked away from Eliza; he misses my absence.

- You miss Eliza too, don't you?

- Of course, I miss her! I spent five years by his side and it's hard to accept that we will no longer have the complicity of yesteryear. You have no idea how much I want to go to her house and ask her to put everything behind us.

Contrary to what she thought, Audrey gradually realizes that she is beginning to lose control of the situation. To prevent this from happening, she knows she will have to find a solution and quickly.

- You won't, I hope? she asks him immediately.

- Why not? wonders the young man. If you really cared about my well-being, you would encourage me. You should realize that I haven't felt good about myself since I stopped talking to Eliza.

- Aren't you serious?

- Why wouldn't I be?

- Eliza didn't hesitate to humiliate me so that I wouldn't go out with you and you still want her to be part of our lives?

- She behaved badly, but I'm sure she'll make an effort to behave well if I talk to her. She and I miss each other mutually... Besides, you could become friends!

- You dream if you believe that I will grant him my friendship. She's the kind of person who could stab me in the back at any moment.

- You could still think a little about me! You know I miss her and it would do me good to talk to her. Noah is very insistent.

- So, it's me who's being selfish in this story now?

- I never said you're selfish…

Audrey thought she would manage to control herself but, seeing that she was losing control and that her lies were useless, she couldn't hide her jealousy anymore.

- "But shit in the end! Why did this plague have to meddle in what doesn't concern her? she wonders, seething inside.

- I know Eliza and I know she wouldn't hurt a fly. There has certainly been a misunderstanding between you, but the situation could improve if you put a little water in your wine.

- I couldn't prevent you from seeing your friend again, but know that I would never speak to her, she warns him with a sad look.

- It's sad that you act like this.

- It's especially sad that you're ready to accept that my worst enemy comes back into your life to oust me? Besides, I'm beginning to wonder if you're really interested in me.

- How can you say such a thing?

- That's how I feel! You can't go a moment without telling me about Eliza. Sometimes I wonder if you're not using me so you can conquer her by making her jealous.

- It hurts me that you can think such a thing.

- Sorry, but I might have thought differently if you acted differently.

- Are you giving me a fit of jealousy because I want everything to go back to how it was with my best friend?

- Exactly! she gets angry. I don't want you to talk to him.

- I can understand that you don't like her, but Eliza is still my best friend. I miss her and I will do everything to get everything back to normal between us. If you can't understand that, it would be better if this relationship ended there, he simply says.

Before the lady has time to say anything, Noah turns and walks away, much to her shock.

- But wait! Where are you going? she asks him aloud, but she remains unanswered.

Visibly annoyed by what just happened, Audrey goes to sit on a bench to try to calm down. She can't believe Noah is doing this kind of thing to her when they're not together yet. Nevertheless, she has no intention of letting it go, especially since the young man pleases her enormously.

- Damn! It's not true! I do everything to keep Eliza out of my way and he intends to reconcile with her as if nothing had happened. But that's the height! If he thinks I'm going to allow this nobody back into his life so easily, he's wrong; I'll make this bitch's life hell. He's mine, and when a guy belongs to me, no other girl comes near him. It's going to be very bad for Eliza if he dares reconnect with her, she concludes with a dark look before going home, all alone.
