Serena hadn't been home since the incident at Cheryl's hotel, and Eric hadn't even bothered to look for her.

Why was he to even look for her? Why would he do such a thing when she had been scheming against him and his family throughout their two-year courtship period and during their entire marriage? He thought about his kids and felt pity for them. He prayed that they didn't have Serena's traits because he would have failed them.

He hadn't wanted to lose it when he got to the hospital. He had calmed himself down and told himself that he was going to the hospital to apologize to his father, but the old man had totally lost it. He had started blaming him for his marriage to Serena, yet it was apparent that it was he or Jael who had made a mistake.
