Dark Tunnel

As the ashes rose up, so did Eric's sorrow and anger.

'I should have done this earlier than today,' he mused to himself while looking on with unmasked displeasure.

He suddenly felt free, as if he had previously been in some bondage. He looked at the mess he had caused but didn't feel guilty.

The case file was weighing down on Val. The police had found Alex's print all over the place though the murder weapon used on Josephine was nowhere to be seen. Alex himself had been taken into police custody, and Val was assigned to him.

'I didn't bargain for this,' Val told herself as she opened another page of the file. It had gotten late, and she was still in the office. She looked at the time on her phone and sighed, then packed up her stuff to go home.

She got home, and the sisters got down to start going through the files.

"Do you think he did it?" Tracy asked Val with a deep frown.
