Chapter 3

Chapter 3

"Mama," I called out as soon as I stepped by the doormat.

"Oh, it's you!" Mom appeared by the corner. She was as beautiful as ever with ponytail blonde hair, with the cute white flowered dress and an apron tied around her waist.

"Mom! Who would it be if it's not me?" I asked her. By saying that, I am not wrong about the fact that she was expecting someone.

"No one, yeah it's you!" she argued and went back to hiding herself in the kitchen.

"Of course, it's me, what's your problem dude," I said still confused banging the door closed. "Anyway," I continued and followed her to the kitchen.

"What?"

"I got some good news," I said excitingly.

Mom looked at me with her eyelashes lifted together with her brows. She looks like a monkey.

"Stop doing that, you look ugly," I said.

"What! I am waiting, what's the good news?" she rushed me.

"I won a friend."

I thought she was happy to listen but she excluded herself and went back to chopping the onions. She gave me the reaction of 'Not interested!'

"It's fine! I'm fine. I just need to drink this champagne here and someone's gonna listen to me," I said attempting to drink a glass of wine laid in front of me by the table.

Afraid. Mama turned fast to me and grabbed the glass of wine in my hands. Now she's interested.

"So tell me about your friend. Was it a boyfriend or a girlfriend?" mom asked with interest.

I laughed. "What's with that wine anyway? Is it that expensive to not let me have a sip?" I asked changing the question.

"Nothing, it's just nothing. I just don't want you to be drinking alcohol at the age of seventeen. You're still not legal to do that," she made an excuse.

I snubbed. "Ehe! Liar! And one more thing, what's wrong with you? Drinking alcohol at daylight?" My forehead curled in confusion.

Mama sobbed. "Shut up and mind your own thing, Sam," she screamed at me. I rushed to leave before she could throw the glass at me. She seemed annoyed.

I left her and went upstairs to my room, removing my bag down to the floor and dumping myself to my bed. I was on the inside of my brain, remembering what happened at school.

The way that Norton pulled me close to him when his brother, the big bully bumped into us made me feel different. Norton and I are gonna friends tomorrow.

"Let's go, Sam," I said imitating how Norton said it.

Kylie Pierce just left us alone. He did not even speak a word to us or just to Norton as a brother. I guess they were having a family feud. Or was it a sibling war

I opened my laptop and immediately added him to my Instagram account. Suddenly I sniffed. The aroma of the dish that mom was cooking filled the space in my room that makes me feel hungry. I just realized I did not close the door that's why I'm smelling something I shouldn't have.

I went downstairs and helped my mom wash the dishes and help her eat the food. The night was slowly approaching as we wait for the apple pie to be finally out of the oven.

"Mama," I begin to ask her. "Why do have blond hair and I do not?" I asked having the manner of curiosity.

She stared at me. "Are you being crazy right now?" she said irritated that I have been craving her since this afternoon.

"No, what if I am not your child?" I continued to tease her.

"I just dyed my hair, Sam!" She threw the plastic tong at me. It hurts. I shouldn't have said that.

"I was just joking! No need to throw things at me. If I'll die you'll have no one to take good care of you!" I protested giving her a big sulk.

She sobbed. "You're not that great of taking care of others anyway, look at the mess in your room. It's just the definition of 'YOU CAN'T TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF' as well as to others. You are so messy." Mom threw my words back at me.

"I don't care. That is how I show my big love to you," I said.

"You're so lame Sam. Anyway, your uncle Nick told me to have a visit to his water park this Saturday. I forgot to tell you this morning."

Uncle Nick is my mom's brother. They are good siblings and close to each other. Since my father left us, Uncle Nick had become my biggest man by my side. I like him. I think we are a good match for father and daughter.

Mom looked at me. She was waiting for my response when I thought it doesn't need a response to what she just said.

"What? Of course, I'm going, since when did I refuse a water park invitation," I said tossing a spoon in the air.

"Good. Now let's eat." She put the potholder in her hand and opened the sweet pie from the oven.

As we began digging out the foods. We talked a lot. She began asking me questions that left me quiet.

"So have you been seeing your father this past month," she suddenly asked me changing the atmosphere in the room.

I did not answer since I do not want to. My mom and dad were separated at the age of four. They are not divorced, just separated. My father had been seeing me secretly actually. Yet, I had to keep it a secret from mom.

At first, I was ignorant of his presence and I hated him for breaking my mom's heart yet as the days went by I had been craving his appearance. We have been moving from different places because of him.

Mom hates me for interacting with my dad but I could not do otherwise. It is just that mama does not listen to my father's explanation as well as I am. I just need him to be by my side. Just a look at his face and a big hug were enough for me.

This past week, we met each other at the park. I did not tell mom about this or she'll go mad and change into a new house location again. I am tired of moving from one place to another.

It is either I'll love each one of them without hurting the other and I think keeping this secret to mama is the best way to stay having both of them by my side.

I looked at mama straight into her eyes realizing I spent too much time being silent ignoring her.

"No, I haven't seen him." The words come out of my mouth on their own. It was a good way to break the silence between us too.

"Why does it take you too long to answer me then?" she began to suspect.

"I just don't want this topic being brought out, I hate it," I lied. I wanted to discuss this with her but even my explanation does not hit her as much as Dad's. It is good to just leave it behind. Well, this is the thing of there are some things that should be left unspoken.

She answered. "Good then. I won't ask it ever again, just promise me one thing." I looked at her. "Do not ever cross paths with your father as much as possible." Mom returned to digging her food with the fork.

I gulped one spoon of chicken soup. "Hmm," I said. It was not enough to take her promise seriously but I think it was just fine to satisfy her.

"Anyway, you said you had a friend," mom started to ask.

"Yeah his name is Norton," I said.

"Norton? It's a guy!" she said shocked.

"Yeah, got any problem with that?"

"Are you telling me you're a tomboy?"

I felt sick to hear that. My mom's getting crazy with me being friends with a guy? "I am not!" I denied. "Doesn't mean I am friend with a guy means I'm a tomboy mom! Or do you want me to be a tomboy?"

"No."

"So stop saying that, I just like him because he had these big muscles." I even flexed my biceps and touched my fat shoulder. "See that?" I showed mom. "That is the opposite of his."

My mom laughed at me.

"You should take him home, so I can see if you're telling the truth," she demanded refusing to believe me.

"Mom! That's not fair. You see, I just made friends with him this day and we have not yet started our relationship--" Did I just say that?

"Relationship?" Mom looked at me shocked. "Okay!"

"No, Yes friendship relationship," I said. Now I am being troubled with my own words.

She lifted one brow and looked at me smiling. Whether does she believe it or not. I just made the mistake of saying that word.

"Are you in love with this guy?" She started again.

Now the table has turned and she's the one teasing me and I am left to answer her cheesy questions.

"No. Ew! No. I just," I stuttered. Finally, "NO!"

"Are you sure?"

"Yes."

She was giving me another look. She does not believe me. Oh God, please help me now.

"I think I should give you a ride to school tomorrow," she suggested smiling.

What?

"No!" I screamed making my eyes widely bigger in shock
