Sound of thunder

*Clack* *Clack*

The sound of feet tapping against the ground with force. The sidewalk was clear of any pedestrians, with only a lone stranger producing the sound.

Along the dark path were various plants and trees. Occasionally a circle of light from a street lamp illuminated the sidewalk. A silver metal trash can and wood bench just beside it casting a light shadow.

The man walked slowly, his pace was steady. The thoughts in his mind entirely unknown to anyone but himself.

At first he had one hand in his pocket and another behind his back holding his phone in hand. Another midnight saunter alone, unhappy, wandering, and thinking. With no destination in mind he roamed the streets stopping just below a street light reminiscing about family.

As he walked he saw large circular building in front. Inside, dimly lit, were shelves and racks of books. The library's spiral shape reminding of his time in Wengehua.

An image of walking with his mom along the rainy streets came to mind.

the thought, "I miss you" passing through the mind of the lonely pacing man.

Tilting his head up he stared at the sky, with no stars in sight he looked at the darkness above. His feet continuing to walk silently.

As he approached a wide and straight path, below a small set of stairs. He picked up one foot and stepped down forcefully. The ball of his foot hitting against the concrete floor.

*thud* *thud* *clack*

Almost as if marching in rhythm, he continued to stomp against the ground. Proceeding to walk forward. He could hear his own footsteps through the headphones.

*click* *clack*

All the noises he made belonged to him. At this time of night, only his pair of ears were even within hearing range. The dark streets occupied by his presence.

Continuing down this path, the man walked closer to some residential buildings.

The wide road he walked narrowed into a curved path. Small posts for 2ft street lamps shone it's light across the nearby bushes and entrances. A net of bulbs overhead made the plaza well-lit.

Above the man's head were numerous windows which one could peer into the rooms inside. Some with blue and green room LEDS, others flashed with a variety of colors. Most of them, however, were darkened.
