Energy Cycle

Million and millions of miles away, from a distance that few could even attempt to comprehend lay the large ball of fire.

It burned bright and fiercely, letting out a steady stream of energy and light. It was at the center of the solar system humans called home.

To a curious child, energy was a mystery, as the color of a mirror confused him, as the value of money did too.

"Where does it all come from? Where does it all go", the precocious child wondered.

Water cycled through the system, food cycled through webs, did any of it escape or was there always more.

Looking at the charts he saw that some were taken from the ground and others were recycled. However the arrows always confused him, since he knew the arrows all started and pointed somewhere, but he couldn't figure out what the connection was.

"Oil and coal came from the ground, where did that come from?", the child asked himself.

"Where do birds and animals get energy from, what about plants?", he wondered once more.

The yellow arrows of light lay ignored, although they lay on the page. The map was incomplete, the puzzle and connections needed to be put together.

Looking up the child saw the sun, he could feel the warmth on his skin. The energy it irradiated and gave off. Having to travel so many millions of miles that he couldn't understand.
