THE ANSWER

Stan is confused since he expected that Kate would recognize his penmanship.

"You didn't recognize?" He asks curiously.

"What do you mean?"

"I wrote it, i thought you noticed because you came." Stan says with a smile.

"Wait it was you?" She asks, both surprised and confused.

"Maybe this is a joke, maybe he has something to tell me about school, he wouldn't like me..." these thoughts crossed her mind at lightning speed. Then, she heard the words she was dreading...

"I like you, please go out with me!" Stan says nervously, but confidently. He is confident since Kate has been showing signs that she likes him. Kate was in despair, she viewed him as a brother, and isn't sure if she likes him or not.

Kate didn't know what to do or say. She's still in shock. There was a silent 5 minutes but to her it felt like 5 hours. Suddenly, Kate's voice broke the silence:

"I'm sorry, I'm not into you." She said with a trembling voice. Stan was in colossal despair, his world fell apart, and his stomach fell, the light in his eyes faded and so did his smile.

"Oh, i see..." Stan says with a trembling voice

"Please don't be sad, we can still be friends." Kate says with an assuring voice.

"Friends...." Stan repeats this word in his head, as he walks past her.

"Wait!"

She catches a glimpse of his face, his eyes were streaming with tears, and his nose was red. Stan keeps walking, he goes straight for the exit of the school, where he finds Anne, greeting him, but this time, instead of greeting back, he ignores her, and covers his face with his bag. Kate was in tears too. She had viewed Stan as a great friend, and even liked him a little, but was still not sure if she would want him as her boyfriend. She regretted answering so quickly, when she could have easily asked for more time. She too was in despair because she may have lost her best friend, she went to the front of the school, her face wet with the tears even when she cries she looks beautiful, she covers her mouth in shock. Anne sees her, crying, and weeping.

"It all makes sense now," Anne thinks in her perplexed mind.

She is in shock, the way that both of them were crying, the way they both disappeared after class, the way Stan looked at Kate the way he never looked at her, the way she finds him staring at Kate.

"It all connects..." She tells herself

She is crying her eyes out at this point, she starts heading home with her hoodie on her head. She is confused with what she is feeling, she feels joy, because Kate isn't part of her worries anymore, but then she realized.

"Stan is the type of guy who would never talk to the girl he confesses to if he gets rejected."

In other words, their friendship is broken. She stops for a bit, her tears of happiness turn to despair. She knows this, because she had seen it happen before.

Kate doesn't leave school just yet, she goes to the classroom, and sits on Stan's desk, the one which was near the window. It overlooked the school, the orange light, tinted the desk as she stared at the sky, wondering what will happen from this point on. She said to herself that she would change everything and ask Stan out. These thoughts were indeed crucial, but her trail of thoughts was interrupted, and she snapped back to reality when the door opened.

"Hello?"

She turns her head. Its Isaac, the class's basketball player.

"Oh it's just you Kate." He says.

He goes to sit beside her on the desk next to her, but when he gets closer it gets even clearer that she has been crying.

"Oh, hello Isaac." she says as she looks back out the window.

He sits beside her and gently pulls her face towards his. Her eyes were swollen and red while there were more tears coming down her red cheeks. He wipes off the tears while asking her:

"Why are you crying?" and "Are you ok?" He says with a soft caring voice.

"It's nothing, don't worry about me"

"Is it Stan?" He says with a smirk

She hesitates to tell him, but decides to tell him.

"Y-Yes..."

"What is it this time?" He says with an annoyed look on his face.

Isaac has been friends with Kate since 2nd year middle school, so he knows her very well.

"It's just that," there was a bit of a pause

"That??" Isaac says rather impatiently

"He confessed," She answers

After hearing her words Isaac's jaw dropped and his face was flushed.

"What did you tell him?" He says

"I rejected him" Kate says while her head dropped like a droopy rose.

"Oh, I see." He says rather sad but on the inside, he's celebrating.

Isaac is the master of deception.

He continues to comfort her, and even cry with her. To Kate this was a disaster, but to Isaac, it was a wonderful opportunity. When they checked the clock, it was 6:30, and the radiant, bright, yellow, light grew dimmer and dimmer. Isaac offered Kate if he can walk her home, and she accepted it.

Meanwhile, Stan arrives home he lays on his bed and cries, he cries for hours. Anne also got home, avoiding all the questions and greetings of her family. She goes straight to her room, showers, gets dressed rather swiftly, grabbed her phone and left. She thought that going to his house was a good idea to comfort him. She left the house rather energetically. When she knocked on the door, she didn't get an answer, so she tried two more times before giving up. Then, she heard the door creak with the familiar voice

"Hello?" Stan says

Anne turns with a smile, but it quickly fades. She finds her friend, in the same clothes as he was this morning, but at its worst state.

"ARE YOU OK!?" she asks sternly

"Yes, yes, I am fine" Stan says while shutting the door

She holds the door with her foot,

"Please don't shut me out." She says while trying to pry the door open

"Remember Rose?" She says trying to tease him

"This should crack him up, it always works!" she thinks to herself.

But something strange happened,

"PLEASE JUST LEAVE ME ALONE!!" Stan shouts, and slammed the door on her.

Anne is in shock, but instead of being sad and all she understood his situation. She leaves the compound. When she got home she didn't feel like eating. They both slept for today, was a hectic day.
