"How do you win all the time?" asked Afena.

Her father smiled smugly. Or as smugly as her father could ever hope to smile. Pride was not something that moved him, or incentivized his actions at all.

"Because I know what you're going to do, Silver."

"How could you possibly know that? Not even Inarentas can read minds."

"Maybe I'm a god."

Pride might not have moved him, but he liked to play a little bit with the minds of others. Nothing to manipulate them of course, and it was always clear he did it to tease, and never to deceive.

"Your gray hairs betray your dramatic, yet fraudulent revelation."

"And my knees, and my back, and my cough." He chuckled, but checked himself immediately, knowing it would lead to a fit. "But my mind seems to have escaped the ravages of time, thankfully. You must surely know what this is all about, silver."
