Irimena had not blocked her door, and Afena saw her crying at the side of her bed when she went to visit the girl after she and Krenen accepted their relationship.
"Either I talk to her now, or find it too awkward to do so later," she told herself, opened the door, stepped in, and said, "Did you see us?"
The girl wasn't startled, but the Inarenta knew she'd be embarrassed. Irimena tried to compose herself as best she could in the vain hope that Afena had not seen her cry, but very little thought was needed to know that she had been.
"I'm so sorry," said Irimena.
"There's nothing to apologize for." Afena sat on the bed to run her hand down Irimena's hair. "Not for you, at least. Perhaps for me."
"No, no. I said you could have him."
