AFENA
Afena woke up not because of the sobs coming from one side of her bed, but because the dream had ended, and she saw no more need of sleeping. It was only then that she noticed the noises, and turned to see Irimena crying at the edge of her bed. The girl was kneeling on the floor, resting her head on the mattress.
"I don't think you should be up," Afena told her.
Irimnea's head sprang up. "I'm so sorry," she pleaded. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I--"
"Sh, sh, sh, sh, sh, sh," Afena lifted the covers of her bed. "Get in."
Irimena did not waste an instant to lie next to Afena, and hug her in reverent gratefulness, thanking the Inarenta over, and over, and over.
Afena shushed the girl gently throughout the whole night, caressing her hair, which allowed Irimena to fall asleep as comfortably and easily as her conscience allowed.
