Unbelieving silence stretched on for a few seconds as Krenen waited patiently, holding his staff, for the people inside the inn to react to his words. The screams outside kept on going, accompanied by the monstrous croaking call of whatever creature terrorized the folks.
"He's crazy," someone said.
"Oh, then let this crazy man go out to his own death," the stranger said. "What would you lose if you did? None of you know me, and so, my death will be unremarkable and meaningless. At best, however, I might just teach you how to get rid of monsters if they come to your town again."
"And how do you plan to do that?" One of the men that had been stacking tables against the door asked.
"I'll know when you let me out."
"We're not opening this door, man."
"Oh, well," Krenen moved towards a window. "You'll miss the show if you don't come with me, but suit yourself. You can bar this window again when I jump out through it."
