Chapter 308: Heart Made of Stone

Charlotte Cooper heaved herself up, trying to get out of the bed, only to find her whole body feeling as if it had been crushed by a truck, entirely weak and powerless.

It took her a while to get her feet on the floor.

Considerately, the slippers by the bed were in just the right size.

With a slight furrow in her brows, Charlotte got up and walked out of the bedroom.

She found the living room even more spacious. The cold metal furniture was all in black and gray. Glancing around, Charlotte noticed something strange.

She realized that there were no windows in either the bedroom or the living room.

All the light came from lamps, making the house seem especially cold and deserted without any natural light.

"Is anyone home?"

Charlotte cleared her throat and called out.

Her dry mouth felt like it was about to crack. Wracked with thirst, she contemplated drinking from the water dispenser nearby, but then decided against it.
